View Full Version : How often do you get indie dev 'spam'?

I just wondered - does everyone else get indie development spam as much as I do?
I mean things like: musicians/artists/the occasional writer, seeking work.

I'm not saying it bothers me - I maintain a directory of anyone who's work I'm impressed with in case we need them in the future. Also, we sometimes get some interesting offers like people willing to collaborate on platform ports that I'm really interested in pursuing in the future.

Currently, I'm getting 3-4 emails a day though. Mainly a 30%-70% split of artists-musicians.

I feel really bad for musicians, there's so many out there, they have a harder time even than we do!

Like I say, it's always worth having contacts for the future, and certainly beats all the viagra spam I get, but is this normal?

I think it's just that you're too popular. :)

I get them on occasion, and I don't consider them spam really, although I might if I were getting multiple a day...

When I hear of a cool project that I would like to be a part of, I may PM the person asking if they could use my assistance. Is that considered spam?Otherwise I only email if they are in fact asking for bids.

Actually the only indie spam I got was that Marino Music email that made it's way through here a month or two ago.

I do get a lot of "can you write me a song that sounds like XXXX in two days for free...?" I guess that's spam, but it's from programmers and filmmakers...

Don't feel bad for us audio cats, there is plenty of work out there if you know where to look and how to ask!

By calling it spam, I wasn't implying I hate it :) that's why I put it in inverted commas. I don't mind at all when someone contacts me

I've just been surprised how many people have started to contact us lately. the same time last year, it was about 3-4 per month.

I'll go with Pappilon's theory that we are just popular ;)

I've got a few, maybe one a month. By the way, one artist attached all his book to the email, and the mail server collapsed :o

I've noticed, the less time I spend on the forum, the less I get. ;)

Though I kinda like digging through audio portfolio's. Art portfolio's tend to make me cry, for both reasons.

A lot of people apply to me for a job. But if I was in a position to hire anyone, the first person I'd employ would be myself.

Don't hire him. I hear that guy's a slacker.

I agree. He posts in every thread! But his art is very original. How he does clay modeling and posts on the computer at the same time, I have no idea.
