Hi all,
I've been searching the web, but haven't been able to find a good answer to my question-- mostly because of noise, I'm sure.

How does wireless networking work, on a low level? For instance, what I picture happening is this:

1) Wireless access point sits completely idle--does nothing at all, until an input comes in.
2) Computer wireless card broadcasts an "anyone out there" message
3) Wireless access point replies with "yeah, I'm here"
4) Computer card and wireless access point establish some unique ids with eachother so that any future broadcasts become more specific.

Is that right? Or is a wireless access point constantly broadcasting? Is the wireless card on the computer constantly broadcasting?

Thanks, I'm interesting in seeing how this stuff works on that level.
John
