The definition of being an industry professional is pretty loose.
You could really stretch the boundaries (ie 'Independent developer').

As a visitor or exhibitor?
E3 is completely crowded with Joe Anybody visitors these days.

If you haven't been before it's worth going just to get the experience but don't look to make much business sense from it for non-retail enveadors. Pretty much anyone with money and a business card can get in. One enterprising individual I know used to sneak in side doors when guards weren't looking back when $200 was big money to himself.

Yeah, 2 years ago I went because I worked at Best Buy. Now I'm going this year because I work at music4games.net. They really do take everyone...and their little dog, too!

I understand that this year they are cracking down on admissions to E3. That and no more booth babes.
