I looking for a high quality, creative artist to help me complete the following:
http://forums.indiegamer.com/showthread.php?t=6062
Generally, I am looking for a couple of artifacts a week. If you think you are a good fit for this type of game, please contact me email me a link to your work: Sean.Doherty@GameSlammer.com
I prefer to have each artifact quoted as we proceed.

Artists don't like being drip fed small jobs once or twice a week, it's not worth our bother generally. Not being negative, just as constructive as I can.
Another problem is if it's several weeks it's likely the artist will not be available to you on some weeks. My suggestion to you is get a detailed list of every graphic you want the artist to do, and then get a budget you have in mind and make those two things meet. Don't go over your budget, someone will meet you there.

Robert,
Thanks for the advice but this has not been my experience to date. I have found that when you ask for a lot of artifacts all at the same time or try to try to get a quote based on the type of game you are creating the quotes will be much higher because of the risk. Basically, if I only ask you to quote an animated explosion there is a lot less risk for both of us then if it was only a line item for a game.
Generally, it seems that many people struggle in this space. I haven't seen many indie gamer artist posting hourly rates so I am not sure what is best? Also, I probably have a similar challenge to many people in that I have a full time job which means this is something I do when I have time. I like to implement and pay for art as I get it as opposed to just having all the art done at some point in the project. I will have to give this further thought.
Thanks
Christian

Hi again, just in case you didnt know, what you need is called "outsourcing" and its a steady growing new way of doing business, it consists on freelancers doing small to large projects for small to large companies, its perfect for indies!, let me recommend you some site in wich i work, im sure you will find what you are looking for (even if you dont choose me... :´( ).
And dont think its exclusice for programmers, you can find graphic designers and artists there too. Good luck.

For me, it's a better deal the kind of what you Sean propose(not the task itself, as I don't have the details, and always say each thing has to be looked at very carefully). I have very full time job, so is better low risk and low amount of time; little gigs. People dedicating to this of freelance graphics full time, I guess they're after big projects where they can have solid income. Is understandable.
I have done several of the small things, and went quite well.
I think there's room for both kind of gigs and developers. To me that are majority those preferring a graphic artist take care of absolutely all and in little time. But killing the possibilities of other kind of developers (non full time indies wether is a coder, gfx or sound person) imho would not be the best thing to do...My two cents.
I haven't look deep into your project or site, etc. But I am one of those maybe taking these kind of tasks. Just now I'm full , can't do these things for now.
I understand what Robert Cummings say(but I don't think this would kill the continued flow of big gigs: graphic quality is I'd say a must, these days, and is better artist with all time devoted to it releasing it all quickly. Just I know a non full time indy pursuits other things, while care for so me money...).
Again, is just my opinion.

I agree, this seems very low-risk and not time consuming at all. We can make some things in our free time and sell them. This project doesn't seem to need to be in a hurry, as well, so for those of us with schedules like this guy, it's nice.
Moreover, it's nice to think, "Hey, if I need some extra $$$ I could make a simple graphic today!"
I am interested in helping, would you PM me some examples Sean of what you're looking for?
