Over in the GameMaker boards there is a game called Crimson Glade:

It's a very simple game, but I found myself spending hours playing it - plus it has an editable version. I wanted to mention it here because having a more polished, fleshed out version of this game might make for a great "casual" game.
it is interesting, although I wasn't sure what to do for a bit but yeh I agree I could see a casual version of this, the core mechanic anyway

Ever played StarCraft in Use Map Settings mode @ Battle.net ? There are zillions of "x defense". It's exactly the same principle.

Haha, my main experience with ToD gameplay is with WarCraft III! This just inspired me to make my own standalone version of Defense (Defence) of the Ancients! :D ... Although I've been wanting to make a stand alone version of the real time Risk game for a while now too... better get started.
