View Full Version : Ease of use - Plimus Vs BMT

I'm pretty new to the business side of games development, and as such I am wondering which would be the best merchant to use, based mostly on how easy it is to set them up, deal with customer problems/chargebacks, offer affiliate schemes and discount coupon systems.
It seems Plimus and BMT are the two main contenders for my money, so the only real deciding factor now (discarding the paypal issue) is ease of use, so any thoughts on this would be welcome.

Plimus made no sense to me at all for the first hour I worked with it. Then it took another 4 hours or so to get my first product up and working. And there were some bugs in the interface that I'm not sure they have sorted out. It seemed much harder than it needed to be, but I've come to appreciate the control panel and everything it can do.
BMT's control panel is simpler. It doesn't have the extra hierarchy of product groupings that Plimus does, which makes it easier to work with but also not as useful for organizing multiple products.
Support with both companies is excellent, (flawless?) with quick escalation to developers or accounting when needed. I find the tone of support people at BMT to actually be... >>gasp<< friendly. Plimus is a little more like the competent butler that does his job perfectly and says little.
If you have an interest in shipping CDs or other physical merchandise that you print (as opposed to "FastCD" on-demand shipping), then definitely look into Plimus' order fulfillment. This feature is scarcely promoted on Plimus' site or mentioned here, but it's a great timesaver and other payment processors aren't offering it.

The BMT Micro support can not be better.
Their service is insane.
I contacted them if they could make custom order form to match my website, and the next day it was done. I didn't have to move with a single finger and they did awesome work.
I contacted them how I can integrate keygen to their system. I just sent them the keygen source code made in Visual Baic and they re-coded it to C++ and integrated, and in a few hours it was running!
I sent them my Press Release if they could proofread it. They did and I received a lot of comments and suggestions. Then I contacted them if they could look at my software and give me some feedback, they did it and even found a bug!
They always reply very soon and are extremly polite.
By "they" I mean mostly Brandon King, but you get the idea!

WOW! I cannot say anything but "Amazing!"
If this is true, then it seems like now I know a good way to save my money on testing and proofreading :D

Both Plimus and BMT do have amazing tech support. I could give you similar stories on the Plimus side. At times I almost feel guilty about how much support I get. Like on a month where Plimus made say... $80 of commission from me, I got a custom programming solution to a problem and a careful investigation and explanation of how my royalties were calculated on a report. I think they probably blew the eighty bucks they earned that month.
Everyone seems to agree that you can't go wrong on support with either company.
