View Full Version : Regnow Vs Plimus - the ultimate battle

Of late there seem to be two eCommerce vendors fighting to be the best in their game - RegNow & Plimus. Although the rest of the vendors are not left much behind, these two are clearly on the top.

I recently signed up with Regnow (despite all the negative feedback about Digital river and how they buy up companies) and have not received a single affiliate sale in weeks. Now, it makes me think should I switch to Plimus, what's your opinion? How is the affiliate network at plimus, and more importantly, how is their service in general?

As per my experience, I have found the following positives about Regnow & Plimus:
1) Regnow accepts paypal & has a wider affiliate network
2) Plimus has more flexible terms such as disabling the extended download serivce and signing up for more than 1 vendor for handling payments.

Rest of the features seems to be comparable in both - serivce rates, customizability, etc. Would really appreciate if someone can help me choose between these two vendors.

I think the real battle is between Plimus and BMT Micro... if top indies like Retro64 and Twilight uses it, must be good.

You could use both.
Like RegNow for affiliates and Plimus for your own sales.

Hey Jack, I noticed you recently switched from Plimus to BMT Micro for the buy links on your main page. I've been meaning to ask you why you made the switch?

Is it because BMT Micro accepts Paypal natively?

Plimus really needs to start accepting paypal.. They have been promising this for awhile but I've still yet to see it. :( I've been personally processing all paypal orders by hand. (For me, paypal is used for about 10% of all orders. Probably would be more if it was properly integrated into the ordering system)

If BMT did direct deposit into canadian bank accounts or did paypal transfer for monthly payments (as does Plimus), I would really consider switching to them.

agreed about plimus and paypal, if they dont get paypal added soon, I'll have to think about switching too, although it probably won't be to RegNow. Their insistance on using a single provider is far too anti-competitive.

Yes, this is already a good reason to switch, 15% of my sales are Paypal ones.

Gnatinator: BMT can pay into your paypal account, I used that system before. Fee is $5 I think.

Edit: I think Plimus does a good service too. But not accepting Paypal is really bad :(

Thanks a lot for all the information guys.. I'll have a look at BMT micro, but I will surely switch into BMT micro or plimus.

Regnow's constraints are really a big pain

Paypal is a bonus - BMT was a favourite contender of mine before I looked at ShareIT (for less UK US conversion hassles on payments) - however I don't think they do paypal either?? so I may end up with BMT afterall even if the rates+conversions cost a bit more. Sounds like PPal is worth it.

Tried setting up with both Plimus and BMT. Man, Plimus site is MUCH more elegant than BMT's. BMT even includes a typo in their default customer acknowledge e-mail ("Feel free to email us at orders@bmtmicro.com for -->inquires<-- related to an order you have placed."). Overall, BMT just feels lack a hack - I don't have a lot of confidence in them, given how mediocre they project themselves through their site.

Uh... and I allways thougth that plimus is powerfull and nice but a little "domestic" or hackish and thougth that BMT is more pro and elegant and all.

People in glass houses... (sorry, couldn't resist). ;)

Seriously though, BMT has been very professional in all my dealings with them - they might not be as big as any DR affiliate, but they are certainly not "hackish". They also have the huge advantage that you get some pretty personal attention - i.e. you can talk to real people and get really fast and useful replies (e.g. for such things as custom order page building, customer support issues, etc). The number of payment options available is not a big issue for me, so I can't comment on that. But they do what they do very well.

One thing I really like about BMT is that they issue checks promptly and I always receive them (unlike RegNow which is issued after 10th or something and it seems that every second check got lost in delivery :( )

I get the BMT wire transfer on the 1st weekday of the month. Can't be any more prompt than that.

But I wouldn't waste too much time worrying about an ecom service- they all do the same basic thing, and do a very good job of it. Worry more about your game :-)

So BMT pay you for the previous month within days? Plimus make you wait till the 15th which is a pain. On the whole though, Plimus have been excellent for me. Never any problems, quick to respond to queries, powerful control panel...

I would like them to accept Paypal though. :)

Our check from BMT arrives typically around 5th of every month. The fastest payment I see of any partner we have.

I give their support an A as they always respond, have made pretty good upgrades showing they listen to needs, and even some decent sized modifications at our behest (mostly our ideas are very good ones).

Do you have an issue receiving a cheque from them? When I take mine into the TD, I just remind them it's a US cheque in US dollars. They convert and deposit it. Never had a problem here.

Agreed, and their fraud measures are the best I've experienced.

I used to get charged for banking US cheques in the UK and it's a hassle going to the bank every month.

Are BMT based in the US? Can they send cheques in Euros/Pounds?

They're based in US, but when you open an account you can choose your vendor account base currency (USD,EUR,GBP). Their international wire-transfer fees are quite expensive though $50 !! :(

Plimus affiliate program is weaker than RegNow's, so use both. All direct sales go to plimus, affiliates go through RegNow.

I think I've written this post about 50 times now.
