Do you guys use any sort of gamma correction software during production of your games? Especially game art.

I notice that as my monitor ages, or when I tune the brightness/contrast, it has adverse effects on how your final game will look on various CRT units.

Do you use any software for adjusting the gamma of your monitor? I think it's very important and useful to regularly tune the gamma as your CRT/Monitor ages.

I did just that using Adobe Gamma utility and realized I didn't really have to add more lights to the graphics rendering or else the final shipped game will look too washed out/bright.

I've turned the contrast down on my monitor because it showed things up too well - I ended up making everything too dark.

And on a slightly related topic - I corrected that by adjusting the gamma table slightly (in the game). I've put a gamma slider in the game to accommodate all the different sorts of monitors you find out there, because the variation can be truly horrible. But am I asking for trouble? Will using the gamma table cause problems on some cards, or is it pretty safe?

I don't really want to tweak and resave all my graphics, but it's something I've been considering recently.

Most artists I know work in the dark. It is much easier for them to see their art when the light in the room at turned off. This is bad because it is not how the game will likely be played by the end user. Most 'casual' plays I know play with the light on. They find it hard to see the details in the art that was made with the light off.
