I have an idea, and I want to see what you guys think of it.

Why not use a calander for goals and steps in getting there?

Pro's :

Able to see at a glance, where you need to be today.
Short, concise descriptions of goals.
Ability to cross of "days" to see progress of goals.

Cons:

Descriptions too short.
Unable to expand goals into subgoals.
Single day resolution (in other words not by hour or minute)

I think you could actually eliminate the cons, because you could either get something like a daytimer, (and reference on the calender), or even just a piece of paper. This would sort of be a huge undertaking, but the calander makes it more instant. If you have a calander staring you in the face (would have to put it somewhere you look every day) would keep you more focused.

It would also focus you more on what you want to say. Instead of saying a bunch of junk you would have to edit it down to just show the goal.

What do you guys think?

No one has any views on this? I guess no one cares. I guess for someone to reply to my posts, I have to either be contreversial or finish more games. I guess i'll finish more games :-)

I think it's a good idea. Although obviously, you wouldn't want to plan too far ahead - maybe a few days at a time.

Calendars are a great way of organising yourself.

Sounds like a good idea and surprisingly simple.
One just have to remain flexible, and of course, you need to have a pretty good idea in advance of the development process, which isn't always the case.
Most of the time you won't be able to reach the goals either by your fault or for external reasons (for example, people sometimes take their time to answer your requests)

One big CON is that it is usually preferible to take whatever time necessary to polish the game, instead of rushing to respect the set date.

Yeah like Duke Nukem Forever "When it's done" seems to be like in the next millenium ;-)

I'm thinking of planning my whole year out like this. I think you'd need to give yourself enough time to finish the job, but not so much time that goal setting is wasted.

The only thing I need to figure out, is how to account for missing deadlines/milestones.
