Hey All,
Game Trust has just announced the Second Annual Casual Game Evolution Challenge. This year we have better prizes and will feature the 3 finalists in our booth at the floor of GDC.
One Grand Prize Winner will win a $20,000 distribution contract (including a healthy revenue share), plus an 8-day "Adventure Tour" for 4 to Costa Rica - all expenses paid.
Two Remaining Finalists will win $10,000 distribution contract offers.
Game Trust will choose the 3 finalists, and display these games in our booth at GDC, where attendees will vote for their favorite game. Based on those votes we will crown the winner.
For more information and to submit, go to www.gametrust.com/contest (http://www.gametrust.com/contest)

The 2006 Casual Game Evolution Challenge seeks to identify the best Java web games for online and download play.
Only web-based java games can enter? Great prizes, though.

I didnt see anywhere in the rules, but can you submit multiple entries? And in the unlikely event; is it possible to win a combination of places if your multiple entries are that good?
Thanks.

Yes, you can submit multiple entries (will update this soon). Unfortunately you cannot win multiple trips :-(.. the prizes go to 'entries', not developers... so you could win a couple of contracts, but not two grand prizes.
Good luck!

Just a quick FYI the menu bar up top is broken in the contest page. The /contest/ shouldn't be in any of the URLs (404 for all of them).

Hmm... not sure about this part:
(c) enter into a Game Distribution Agreement granting Game Trust exclusive distribution rights beginning upon delivery to Game Trust of the Game integrated with the Game Trust platform (Game Frame) and extending twelve (12) months thereafter (Agreement).
Do you have information on "Game Frame"? The links at the top of the site are broken. figured out the links, nm
PS: I tried "RollOn" on your site and it hung while I was falling off a ledge - AMD 2600+, Geforce5700 OC - 256 MB ram

Hi,
We're not based in the US, can we submit a game to the contest?
(There probably aren't any laws here that would dissallow us.)

Thanks Matthew... Loved Glow Worm btw :-).

Game Frame is Game Trust's community and commerce platform that we license to top gaming sites worldwide, like MiniClip.com and Shockwave.com. By integrating their Java or Shockwave games with our API, developers get access to community features (chat, invitations, high score, ratings, profiles, etc.), increased distribution across our network, and new revenue streams (cash tournaments, subscriptions, downloads). We have full documentation and an assistant to help you through the integration process. Last year's contest was for Shockwave games, and this year's is for Java....

Thanks! I will look into this immediately. Try to stay on the ledge next time! ;-)

You can enter from any country, so long as that country permits it.
Good luck all! (and i'm always available at jonathan(at)gametrust(dot)com for questions)...

Hi !
I can't say after reading the contest rules whether contestants are allowed to provide a signed (trusted certificate, not self-signed) game, in order to bypass the sandbox ?
Also, I cannot find a minimal or typical computer configuration, neither limitation in size of the files...
Jonathan could you please clarify these points ? I'm thinking of participating with an upcoming applet game using OpenGL hardware acceleration...
Many thanks
Lilian

Hi Cillian,
We didn't have any specific rules to files sizes and such to keep the contest open to as many games as possible. I believe that for the most part if a game is great people will wait for it, regardless of file size. Just keep in mind that this is a Casual Game contest... so obviously when we choose the finalists we will have current industry standards in the back of our minds.
Really any Java web game can be entered; and if it has a complementary full-version downloadable, that is a plus.

Weekend - time when you are able (have a time) to help to good ones around.
Guys! Gametrust - the best company we met in the latest 2.5 years to collaborate with. They are just awesome!
And Jonathan is exactly the person we are working with directly - one more hundred points to the company for having such a man on board.
So if you would get any invitation for collaboration from them - just go for that. You wouldn't be ever dissapointed.
REM: To anybody who don't know me - check the history of my posts about portals and publishers and you will get that I'm pretty rare on any good words about them.
REM1: To everybody who knows me - we have a title in development just to come to Gametrust and say: "Hey! That's your game. Give back our award for Costa Rica." ;) But NO. We will leave such an option for newcomers.
So, go ahead guys! Get your prize (!) to work with this company (!). Good luck!

Yeah the prizes this year are much better than last year's. :)
It might be worth rolling the dice and putting together a small casual web game just for the contest. Otherwise I don't think I'll ever have a good excuse to go to Costa Rica. :D

Er, is it worth me entering? I can turn Ultratron (and Titan Attacks) into applets ... not sure about that framework or distribution deal thing though :( I'd rather just enter for the, hmm, "glory".

You can submit games from any country, so long as the contest is legal in that jurisdiction.
Regarding the term 'casual game'- that deserves a whole other post, but it definitely does not simply mean a puzzle game. The best definition I've heard is 'popular games'; meaning, the games don't neccesarily alienate any audiences, and are accesible in small chunks to people who may or may not be hardcore or core gamers. If you have a game I suggest you submit it... it's free ;-)...

Kind words from a kind man :-). If anyone has a chance to work with Andy and his company Wildsnake I suggest you seize the opportunity; you may receive a suprise gift package from halfway across the world if you do ;-)!

I suggest to post this over at JGO (http://www.javagaming.org).
The judges will make the 3 Finalist selections based on the potential for commercial success, innovative storyline, and "fun factor.”
Storyline? Oh please.

"The last human is already dead! Only you can save mankind against the advancing hordes of COLOURED ORBS. Only by MATCHING THREE COLOURED ORBS UNTIL YOUR FINGERS CLAW YOUR OWN THROAT OUT can you avenge the human race!"
Well, it's got a certain ring to it...
