Get Down and Dirty with Motorama Bike Racing!

December 13th 2005- Motorbike fans rejoice the release of Motorama, the realistic motocross simulation from IPlayAllday Studio (www.motoramagame.com). Ride through tons of challenging tracks on multiple different bikes. Jump over obstacles, collect medals, and complete time trials for new bikes and tracks. Post your high scores online and compete worldwide for the title of Motorama Champion.

Use realistic bike physics as you jump busses, ride over mountains of dirt, leap over chasms, ride through loops, and beat the clock to the finish line. Adjust body position to maneuver the bike to counter torque produced by the rear wheel, as well as land jumps. Unlike racing simulations, Motorama is almost like a puzzle game, where deciding where you give it the gas and how to position your landing creates the best strategy to reach the finish line in the fastest time possible.

Motorama is all about speed. Players race to the finish line in the fastest time possible without having to bail off the bike. Reaching the finish line intact isn’t the only thing to worry about though, as one must also collect all the gold medals on a course in order to pass it. Success unlocks dozens of different riders and bikes, each with their own attributes, including police bikes, pizza delivery, and street racers. Future updates, which will be freely available, will include a map editor and tons of exciting and challenging new maps to play, and more!

Motorama is a motocross enthusiast’s dream come true, with real physics and a unique timeless style that will be as fresh tomorrow as it is today. Download the absolutely free demo from www.motoramagame.com and fill your need for speed!

Because it looks original, or because it looks like Elastomania?

I haven't played it, so I don't want to call it either way; just wondering. (I also don't want to derail a thread that should be congratulating Yanuart on successfully completing a game).

uh.. please please please try to redownload again, there's a new fix on the game. It fixes some noise problem with old sound card and I changed some sounds too.
pheww.. it has been hectic pace since the release day..

Because it looks original, or because it looks like Elastomania?
arghh.. i wish i had a nickle everytime a guy says that.. would you believe me if I say I know nothing about that game back then when I had the idea to make the game.. one of you guys had to tell me about elastomania.
See this thread for proof: http://forums.indiegamer.com/showthread.php?t=1658&highlight=bike+physics

I tried so hard not to clone a game that I didn't know of, add some extra gameplay, add features, even the physics don't feel the same, etc but the idea is still the same.. a motorbike game with some platform design in it. Can't a guy make a game based on that anymore ? Yes it's not original so does elastomania if you look at kikstart!!
Sorry I'm rambling here and it wasn't meant for you Anthony :D, a guy dropped at my forum and foul mouthed saying I infringe copyright and ripped somebody elses work ?? Really ticked me off... needed to get it off my chest.

I'm torn on this game. I LOVE the concept and I love playing it when my biker is doing well. Unfortunately, it's hard. Really hard. I mean, I had to replay that first time trial level at least 20 times to finally complete it.

I think the primary thing that makes it hard is that I have no other way to play the levels except to fail them repeatedly, memorize where all the obstacles are, where I need to boost, etc., and then run through it finally.

I love the control nuances with the bike itself (leaning back and then digging in forward to gain traction, etc), but it's really hard when entering a new area in the level. I'm assured of falling off the bike so my primary mission is to see as much as I can before it resets me back to the start of the level so I'll have a better chance of making it next time.

It comes to a matter of memorization rather than testing my ability to ride the bike. My reactions and skill with the bike play don't play as big a part in the gameplay as I would have liked.

Anyway, I think it's a great game and I'm going to continue hammering on it in the hope that once I get better, it'll get easier. I really want to love this game! :)

thanks for the input, hmmm.. maybe there should be a mode where you can view the map ?
Do you think it'll soften the game too much ? I thought about it before, but I kinda think that it'll eliminate an important challenging aspect of the game (ok.. it's an excuse but a good one eh ? :D)

The "unknown area" is actually part of the early design where I want players to "fear" what's coming up to them.
The idea came from a platform game, where usually players need to memorize the level, that's why I eliminate map HUD from the screen.

Maybe it's too hard for players...

I think the difference between this game and platformers is the speed. I'm racing into the new areas at high speeds sometimes and really have no chance for survival. I don't feel like I have enough control over the bike to save myself should things go badly.

I also feel like I WANT to go really fast but the game tends to punish me for doing that by killing me in various ways (steep cliffs, low ceilings, etc). The guy seems like a bird who wants to soar through insane jumps and such but he's tethered to the ground. :)

And maybe it's just me. I don't see anyone backing me up here so maybe I just suck. Take this with a huge grain of salt.

And as I said, I'll keep playing because I really want to like this game. It has a lot of potential...

yeah.. I made Motorama to be a trial bike game thing where precision and agility hold the key in this game.

I am however have prepared a special "action mode" build for the game. Check this screenshot : http://www.motoramagame.com/test/engine2005-12-14%2023-46-41-09.jpg

I have to eliminate it from the current version cause I don't want to burden players with ideas in their mind. I know my game is hard enough.

Right now, I'm thinking in what way I should release the action mode, should it be a new different version, add-on, or just update. If I get enough sales maybe I just give it away as a bonus update.

Just an idea - for the level editor which is currently in progress, you should add a "Curve" feature that just uses bezier curves for smoother landscape.

Anyway, since holiday is almost coming up I feel a little jolly. I set a new 5$ discount just for this month !! It's valid for 25 people only though so if you like the game and feel like purchasing it you can use this coupon code : "XMASP03".
Just enter the coupon code in the order page and the discount will cut the price of the game.

Remember that it's only for 25 people and this month only!

Oh, that's a shame. Sorry.

I expect it's a case of both of you playing Kikstart in the past and having a similar idea of where to take it next... this sort of thing must happen all the time, and with genuinely blatant ripoffs happening all the time now, it's a pity someone would single you out for abuse.

Er, anyway. Did I mention congratulations?

yes you did :D Thank you man ! Actually.. if i'm not mistaken.. you're the only one that congratulate me hehe many thanks.. it feels the same as if I get my first sale

Don't download it if you have a lot of work to do ;-)
oh no.. of course.. disclaimer : I won't be responsible for any loss in work efficiency due to my game.

I think it would be nice to hear some rocking soundtracks during the gameplay :-)
yeah.. I'm a metalhead myself, play guitar and huge fan of iron maiden but seriously all the musics on the internet for sale is pretty much same techno sintetizer thingy which I think won't fit the game. Paying a band to create a soundtrack for me is way out of the question in terms of budget.
Maybe later on when I get enough money from the sale.. hehe

Has anyone heard about the discount ? :D

just quick Q:when you try to offer your game for affiliate program, do you contact each webmaster or you wait till someone offers you a deal ?

joe
12-16-2005, 02:56 AM
I'm using an affilate programm from ShareIt. That means, that everyone can subscribe through ShareIt and can sell my game. I never asked one to subscribe but I have a page on my website where I try to acquire new partners. Although I have some affilates only two or three are selling some copies of our games.

Or do you mean portals like Big Fish or Reflexive? Then you should try to contact them directly.

Same here.. my game is available for affiliate sales through Plimus.. vendors can just look it up and apply. Beyond that, I have some information on a dedicated vendors page accessible through a footer link. It's usually enough to get interested vendors on a quasi-regular basis. Some smaller portal arrangements are also willing work via affiliate systems but portals usually require you to take the first step. But I did get a couple of minor portal deals thanks to Terin's press release service :)

you could ask indie metal bands. offer to give them free game keys and of course credits (maybe have a small area that shows the current band, song title on screen)

go to http://www.purevolume.com and look around

I'm sure you'll be surprised how many good bands there are that would be willing to license you their music(for free) in order to get it out there for a bit of exposure

joe

if you license music from indie bands make sure that they are no gema members, if you don't want to get trouble later. If the band is gema member, they CAN'T produce gema free music and you have to pay fees for each copy (even the demoversion) to the gema (at least this is how things are in germany).
