Both your wife and your daughter can't stop playing. Well, that works for me anyway. ;)

The problem in my family is that we got the wife, the daughter, but daddy doesn't find the time to code (mostly because of the aforementioned girls). :p
But you gave me an idea: once I finish my first game, I'll keep 'em busy and thus finally find the time to code the 2nd, and so on.. :D

But you gave me an idea: once I finish my first game, I'll keep 'em busy and thus finally find the time to code the 2nd, and so on.. :D
And then you'll definitley know you are on to a good thing if they are STILL playing the first by the time you have finished the second!! that's some gameplay :)

Yeah ;) But.. working on the 2nd idea, I need them to know if I'm wasting my development time on something not good. This will switch them away from the 1st game, to then give in the 2nd, and thus not allowing me to work on it anymore, so that I'll have to start the 3rd (without having finished neither the 1st nor the 2nd).
No, wait, computers aren't dedicated machines.. I nearly forgot. :p pheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeew. :D

Yeah, hehe.. I use that as a "good gameplay"-o-meter, letting the girlfriend play the game. If she cant resist playing even though she got important things to do, then its definately a good gameplay/concept. ;)

I was flattered and excited the fist time my wife got hooked on one of my games. (It was Big Kahuna Reef). But after a while it got really annoying that she played it ALL THE TIME. I stared to get lonely after the 5 night in a row of me going to bed by myself while she played my game all night. At least she wasn’t cheating on me and playing one of your games. But it was still very quite in bed all by myself.
When I started working on Big Kahuna Words (BKW) I downloaded every word game I could find and installed them on my computer. One day my wife tried a bunch of them and got hooked on Puzzle Word. That started to hurt after a while when I was going to bed alone while my wife played luggage’s game.
When BKW was nearly finished my wife started to play it a lot. At first I was happy that she was no longer “cheating on me” with luggage/Puzzle Word. But then the BKW community started to make lots of really got add-on levels. There are now hundreds of hours of downloadable contents available for BKW and once again my wife never comes to bed with me anymore. It is worse than when she was playing Puzzle Word because now she is playing more hours per day to try to keep up with all the new contents released for BKW.
Be careful what you make. If it is too good, you may never see your wife again.

hehe, no actually, she got some important stuff to do, shes studying to become an engineer like me, but she chose industrial-economics while i chose media-technology, so for all i know, she could be my boss in the future..
now, how about that, a shopping-simulator... I know how girls love games like theme hospital and rollercoaster tycoon, how about shopping-tycoon, build your own shopping mall, thats something to make a fortune on. Just think about hearing a ka-tjing!!! every time someone buys something.. hehehe

I think it's great to make a game for someone in particular that you care about and know well. Forget about everyone else - just make a game that they would like. Apart from the obvious sentimental reasons, it gives the game an identity, a clear design direction, and will probably be enjoyed by many more people once it is completed.
James - I had a similar experience. I woke up one morning to find my bed empty and the key to my office missing. I didn't know whether to think 'yes!' or 'no!'.

man that just made me laugh very hard! (and im not reffering to 'fist time') :D
usually I have the wife playtest as she does like all of the top games without knowing they are the top sellers.
atm though its my 2yr old son who wants to play my current prototype alot as he likes the frying pan noise when the ball hits the paddle, its the only reason why he tries to stop the ball going passed as he laughs uncontrollably at the sound of someone getting hit on the head with a frying pan :D
