Congratulations to you all, and may the best win!
But they are all "best" to somebody ;) I say they just leave it at that and share the winners kudos/cash between the lot of them. All great games for different reasons and to different players.

Congratulations everyone and good luck to all. Special congratulations to Ryan Clark and his team for the excellent Professor Fizzwizzle, which as a "first game" really puts every one of us at shame :)

And Dodge That Anvil! is my first game, too! Now I really need to polish it up.
I really did not expect to be a finalist. There were so many great games entered. Very exciting. Big congrats to all, see you at IGF!

Congratulations... although your website says Andy Schatz, a veteran of the video game industry..., so it's different categories of "first game" :)

Well, I'm a loser again. :) To be fair though, the version of our game I entered was kind of early. Oh well. Looking forward to getting the judges feedback.
Anyway, congrats to the Finalist!

Congrats to everyone in the finals! There were certainly a ton of excellent games (i've played 112 of the 118 entered) entered, so rising above the competition is something to be really proud of!
We'll have our IGF Game roundup posted tomorrow evening for anyone that wants additional info on all 118 entries.

I worried all day today. Last year, when I entered 'The Witch's Yarn', and it didn't place, I felt pretty bad. It was quite rough for beta. Actually, it was Russell who cheered me when he'd said he thought it should have been picked. So if the polished version had failed to place... well, I was mentally preparing to take up debugging other people's code again.
If your game didn't place this time, please keep trying, and always keep improving your game.
Win, place, or whatever, keep making games. I'm announcing my new title today! Check it out at my regular ol' site in my signature. I'll be posting a [Feeback Req.] a little later tonight.

5 Nominees have used the VGsmart Press Service.
Does this mean we increase your likelyhood? Meh, probably not :) But congrats to my clients who have placed and even to those future clients :)
See you at the IGF Awards!

Thank you so much to all the judges!!
There were so many great games this year that I didn't keep my hopes up.
Now I feel very grateful. And it feels great for this to happen after all the hard work. (Hey, Thomas and the Magical Words is our first shareware game too.)
And to top it off penny-arcade.com mentioned Thomas on its front page. So I need some help with bandwidth! (http://forums.indiegamer.com/showthread.php?t=5392)
It's great that so many developers who hangout here are finalists. It will be great to get to meet you all at the GDC. Congratulations to all!!
