Gratz!

Fun because is a thing I always dreamed about too when I was young... but when some months ago I got my 1st retail deal with UBM and received the boxed version, I didn't care much at all

Always nice to show to parents and possible girlfriends of course! :D

I got to create a CD and cover for TB and plant it in a store somewhere, just to experience that feeling... :D

This is through Merscom, I had good references about them from the ThinkTanks guys. This is for Germany and Switzerland and there will be a russian version soon for the eastern european countries.

Congrats Gabriel! I can only imagine how great that feeling is. Hope it works out well for you. ;) Judging by the box it appears to be a retail deal in Germany, is that right?

Do you have any photos of it in a store yet? That is when I get most excited about my games. Getting the box is nice, but seeing the box in a store is the best.

maybe merscom just do great box art, because the German cover for democracy is superb.
I've got a shelf full of boxed copies in my bedroom now, it is pretty cool. It's way cooler to have a boxed copy of a game that was your idea, just being code asset #884 on a 'triple A' title is nowhere near the same.

I've always quite fancied Wendy it has to be said; whilst Betty looked like she was up for anything, Wendy has a bit of class. ;)

One of the indie games sites really needs to do a 'hottest babes of indie games' article.
I just adore un-pc stuff like that :)

Man, that's what we need: something to make us appear even more lonely and geeky.

You should go for a more subtle title like "Most Admired Indie Game Character"... ;)

Congratulations Gabriel,

It is a wonderful milestone the first time you see 'your' game in retail form. It's a kick/smile that never grows old. More of us should be so lucky.

Hi Gabriel,

I actually saw Wendy (and Democracy, and an old retail version of Wonderland, and one or two others I forget now) on a recent trip through Germany. Once at a Media Markt and again at a Saturn.

I always like going through software stores in Germany - you usually find interesting titles that you never see retail around here, including lots of indie stuff. And it's still a total rush to see one of your titles on the shelf (I almost bought a copy of my own game ;) - although I bought a shareware DVD compilation simply because one of the screenshots on the back was from Wonderland).

Congrats!
Patrick

I once bought a copy of aargon on cd off a shelf. Unfortunately it was in an asian pirated software store... but I couldnt help myself. Had to have a copy of the bootleg. Now.. Just to get it through customs..

Congratulations! This is what all the hard work results in.

I still dream of seeing a game that I created in a store. I think the biggest thrill would be to see someone actually purchasing the game!

huh the closet I got to retail was being in the credits on retail games for lowly positions in the industry... nothing I have ever created myself alone, has been in retail or is likely to be.. them's the breaks ;)

Dr.Germ is available on Amazon.com and it's going to appear on retail shelves in Malaysia/Asia sometime next year. It's a cool feeling knowing that people will be picking up your game box and maybe taking it up to the counter. :)

Congrats, Gabriel!

Does the retail package come with a weblink to 1goodgame.com to show them how stupid they have just been ;)

I'm more interested in knowing if a sudden financial bonanza as a result of these publishing deals would result in Savant rethinking this whole anti-clone philosophy :D

Congrats either way, dude.

Savant
12-15-2005, 08:29 AM
There's no bonanza, I assure you. :) The Amazon deal is cool but not all that useful as you're in there with hundreds of thousands of other products. Hard to get seen.

The retail deal in Malaysia was a flat fee deal so even if it owns the market over there it won't really matter to my bank account.

Yeah, we'd sell about 3 copies in all the continent :) Although Brazil may be an interesting market, for the size at least.

Hi, there !

I was browsing through our local Media Markt, going like:
"Prince of persia 2, Call of Duty 2, Medal of Honour Warchest, Guild Wars, Thief 3, Wild West Wendy, SW:Battlefront 2, Painkiller...wait a minute...WILD WEST WENDY !? Whoa !!! Way cool !!!"

Congratulations, Your game came a looong way to Germany ;)

There's a Venezuelan publisher called Mediatech (www.mediatech.com.ve), which claims 100,000 units sold of their different titles. I'll be honest: Their games (the Umi series and some presumably unlicensed Mazinger-Z titles) are GHASTLY. But they might offer decent retail placement. I see their stuff at the local computer megastore (Bitmax) all the time.
