I have noticed that, outside of Danny Mac and Ola (arcadelab), I know of no indies who are big fans of professional sports. I am a fan of the NFL and play fantasy football every year- and I am also a Chicago Bulls basketball fan. It just seems like making games and watching sports don't go together... Anyone out there the same way?

football (soccer) fan here.

Difficult to get work done of a weekend when there's nothing but footy on to watch.

Also play it as often as I can and do the old fantasy football thing too.

For me, I like baseball. I try to watch the Giants game as often as I can. My friend usually keeps me up to date with what's going on, since I work way too much OT at work.

I truly believe that if a man does not like sports, there is something wrong with him.

I am a huge sports fan. I live in San Francisco and there is sports all over the place. I watch baseball, football, basketball and some hockey. I was at the Giants game on Friday and saw Barry Bonds hit #700. I go to a baseball game at least once a week, the Giants are here and the A's are across the bay.

And I will not be doing much homework or game development this football Sunday.

We (in the company! ;) ) are playing tennis and volleyball a lot. And I like to watch almost any sport around - with exclusion of American handball (don't know why you call it FOOTball) and baseball. :D

...and yes, I'm smoking and drink a lot of beer to have kind of balance with sport activity. :D

Big football fan here, although I agree with your assertion that not many programmers like sports. Whenever a football topic is posted on the Blitz forums, the only comments you normally get are people saying how much they hate it.

The hobbies just don't seem to mix much.

I'm not a big fan, but I do like football (what americans call soccer), like almost everyone else here. Our teams aren't really good though, so I rarely go to a match... I see the national team losing against assorted teams, I play every sunday with my friends, but that's it.

My interest in American football (NFL and college) waxes and wanes over the years. Two years ago, I watched every game I could; last year, I only watched the Super Bowl. This year I've only listened to one game on the radio, but the promised increased enforcement of the pass interference rules may get me watching more games if it makes teams pass more. :)

I like soccer a lot (played for many many years). In fact, I have a hard time watching it on TV now because sometimes I feel I should still be playing...

Though I do watch a lot of basketball on TV. Usually around mid-season after the all-star break is when I start watching the most. However, I'm one of those people who think the fundamental basketball skills in the NBA have seriously eroded over the last 7-8 years. I think the dismal performance of our Team USA basketball team in this year's Olympics was proof of that. So I do find myself watching less and less basketball compared to a few years ago.

Finally, I'm into boxing as well. I watched (and paid for) the fight last night between De La Hoya and Hopkins. Unfortunately, watching boxing can be an expensive hobby if you don't have a group of friends to pitch in for the Pay Per View fights...

I had an interest in forumula one racing in my teens, mostly because my dad was a big fan. But I pretty much lost interest in it. I also never managed to like football (soccer) although if I get to meet up with friends to watch some World Cup or Euro finals I sort of get into it a little bit.

But I'm really more interested into sports I can practice, I'm into cycling and scuba diving.. although I shamefully have to admit that I haven't dived this year nor the year before. And well.. ever since I took on my current project I haven't been as active as I should and I have gained a little weight! :o

I'm more into playing than watching. Professional sports doesn't thrill me much. And I'm a fan of sports that aren't often televised --- like fencing (I only got to see clips of Mariel Zagunis bringing home the first U.S. gold medal in fencing in 100 years... grrrr....)

Basketball is fun to watch live, but I guess I have too short of an attention span to sit through the commercials.

Pretty much can't stand most organised sports. I didn't watch a minute of the olympics, and can't remember ever buying or playing a sports game. I went to an American Football game a few months after I arrived here (some of the guys here cajoled me.) The only thing worth watching was the cheerleaders! :D

Having said that, I have enjoyed watching some of the more extreme sports, rock climbing, parachuting, base jumping... that sort of thing.

I'm also an NFL fan and occasionally catch a big hockey game (go Canada!). I just find many of the sports out there pretty boring. Since I've started doing indie development I've had to closely guard my time and always put the important things first - like spending time with my wife. Luckily she likes to watch the NFL too - aren't I lucky? :)

Cheers!

I've never been at all interested in watching sports. Although, funnily enough, becoming a game designer has made me much more interested in them. I can respect a good game played well.

I got talked into playing in a fantasy football league this year. All of a sudden I'm a NFL fan. :o

It feels a little funny watching the games sometimes though. Like tonight on Monday Night Football... I've got Westbrook, the Eagle's running back, on my team... so I'm rooting like crazy for him to get some yardage and get into the endzone... but then I've also got Anderson, the kicker for the Vikings... so I had to hope they would get into FG range and *then* get stopped. :)

Anyway, it's actually a lot of fun. (and yea, Anderson scored a lot more points than Westbrook tonight!)

I used to work at Sierra Sports NW. I worked on a football game that was canceled. I was one of the few people in the group that actually followed football.

Another football (Soccer) fan here. My team (Leeds United) getting relegated last season and being absolutely terrible put a bit of a downer on the season, but I'm hoping they'll pick-up this season.

Watch a bit of rugby and boxing every now and again, but I can't really play either. I like watching the odd bit of rally driving, but motor sport doesn't really interest me. Strange, seeing as I live next to Donington Park.

I play tennis at least once a week with my brother, and ocassionally a friend or two, and I like to play American football video games.

I don't like watching sports at all. Seems like too much of a waste of time for me. But then again my TV isn't even hooked up to a signal. It's there for movies, games, and downloaded British TV/Japanese TV/Arrested Development only.
