Artist: Ian MacLean
Site:Nvision Illustration (http://www.nvisionillustration.com/) (selected samples)
Hey all...My name is Ian MacLean, and I'm a 2D Illustrator and pixel artist. I've been working in the mobile games industry for about five years now, and I've spent the last 2 1/2 years as a Lead Artist at CSP-Mobile/Maxartists. I'm now working freelance again, so if any of you are looking for quality pixelart for your game(s), feel free to drop me a line.
I've done work in a variety of genres, on multiple devices, and for clients such as Sony, Universal Studios, DSF, Duracell, and many others. I can tackle both branded and original I.P., and I am familiar with the limitations of most mobile devices.
If you like what you see, you can contact me at mail (at) nvisionillustration.com or PM me here... Thanks!

Ok you've got some mad skills there. How long is a typical engagement for you? Do you usually get a description of the artwork and go to it or do you have alot of back and forth with the client?

Thanks for the feedback guys, it's much appreciated!
whisperstorm> Generally, the time I spend on a project depends on the type of game, and level of detail required. On something like a more straightforward puzzle game, I'd usually take about two weeks or so on it. Something like an action platformer, with 4-5 levels, would take me around 4-6 weeks.
Also, I'm most often working from a design doc, with short descriptions of all assets needed. Sometimes I have worked from just a general concept, and just ftped or emailed work back and forth as I progress, getting feedback from the whoever I'm working with. This second method can be more interesting, as I have a little more artistic freedom, as long as the client knows what they're looking for...otherwise I could end up doing a lot of revisions, or adding things that were forgotten at the start.

Ian has been doing outstanding work for me lately. His sprite work is second to none. He is enthusiastic, delivers work very quickly and is a joy to work with. He's a creative talent, has even helped my game design in a few places and I can't recommend him enough.
Seriously. Snap this guy up before somebody else does :D
Ian did some art for a project I am working on. It was excellent. I would recommend him to anyone looking for a freelance artist.

I've worked with Ian, too. Well, I can even say I have been team leader of devs who worked with him and lot of other artists. And do you know what? Ian was one of our favourite artists. He has the rare ability to understand what the coder is asking for :) Not to forget about his skill, but it can be judged of his portolio alone.
cheers,

Just to clarify things, I'm currently NOT available for freelance projects (unless, of course, you're offering ridiculous amounts of money :P ), as I've signed up for an ongoing commitment with a developer/publisher. However, if you need suggestions for finding other capable professional pixel artists, still feel free to contact me...
pity could not see to much:o

** Thanks to everyone for their continued interest, but at this point I am completely booked up. I have several on-going partnerships which limit my ability to take on any additional projects. However, if you are still looking for excellent quality 2D/pixel work, I can provide references to some highly-respected colleagues.
Hey everyone,
I just wanted to post and let you know that I'm wrapping up my exclusive stint with my previous development partner, and I'm available for freelance work again. If you're looking for 2D artwork for your game, either lo-res pixel-based or higher resolution illustration, feel free to contact me.
I've assembled some work samples from some previous jobs, that aren't yet up on my website. Most of the following work is for Requiem Software Labs and Danger Mobile, for Danger's Sidekick/Hiptop device. In addition, you can check out a gameplay vid of my work on R-type mobile, recently done for Elite/Gyrox.
