Hi, I'm pretty much new in indie bussiness but I've been making games as my hobby for a long time so I decided to take it more seriously.
My first attempt is to create a web games collection but only to showcase my games (not all of those web games collection where any games can enter), hopefully if it's popular enough then I can get some money by ads..
Right now my site is still on trial this sept (full launch is oct)..
My question is :
1. Is there really a profit for making htis kinda activities ?
2. If it is there, then how ?? I know that those ads agency will only give ads if your site is very very huge..
You can visit my site on my signature below and give me what you think..
any comments, hints, advice or supports will be very appreciated.
Help me to get through this rough bussiness :o

The graphics look great! Unfortunately your text has a number of errors. Here is a corrected version:
You can browse our games at the right to see what games we have for you.
If you like what you see and you want our game list to grow, please support us by visiting or buying stuff from our sponsor to make the list longer and longer each time you come and visit.
To be able to play our games you must install Flash Player plug in v7 or above. If you have any technical difficulties regarding our games, please go to our FAQ forum and post there.
Enjoy and Have Fun !!!
ps: All of these games are free and we want to keep it that way, so please do not copy or redistribute our games without permission. We trust you as our partner to make this site better and better each day.
Also I clicked on "Play Game" and nothing happened :(

thanks for the advice..
when you click play game and nothing happened, there's prolly a few reason :
1. the pop-up window was blocked.
2. which part of the page did you click on ?? I've tested again and everything works for me..
Have you played my game yet ?? If you haven't you should try it though :)
Come visit us more often this month.. there'll be lots of updates

"Play Game" didn't work for me either -- I'm using Firefox 0.9 for a browser.

Firefox does javascript.... it's one of the backup browsers I sometimes use because I have javascript turned OFF on my IE. However, clicking that link in my version of Firefox worked! :)
Probably a popup blocking issue, I haven't enabled any blocking.

hmmm.. but then again my thread's essence is not being discussed very well here :D .
The bottom line is, I'm trying to promote my site and wondering what kinda bussiness I can make by developing webgames..
I've made another thread about my site pre-launch so I hope it'll clear the issue..
any comment on the site should be directed there.. or here.. :D
thanks guys

The topic isn't being discussed primarily because you aren't giving anything TO discuss.
The answers to your questions are:
#1: YES, there is really a profit to be made. Companies are already making a profit doing this, have been for a while. Obviously you CAN make a profit.
#2: You already know the answer to this: There are two main ways to make money off of content: Advertising and Game Sales.
How? That may be an issue for discussion but that is like asking "How do I build a bridge"
Do you realize how many ways you can build a bridge? Well, multiply that by about a zillion and you get how many ways there are to run a business.
Clarify your question or post a hypothosis and then you will get a discussion.
Good luck, sorry if this post seemed rude, wasn't intended to be that way.

Ive been doing flash games for about four years.
see www.artifactinteractive.com.au/arcade/
you can make money by licencing the use of your games to corporate web sites...it's worked for me :)

Yup Terrin and Artifact are both right. Tyipically people do one or the other. (Edit) If license to sites need good solid games. If advertising based need good traffic, to get good advertising deals and/or drive sales need A LOT of online games traffic. Typically need atleast 1-2k uniques per day to get lower rung adverts like google adsense or valueclick (pocket change). Hit up the better advert networks only if got alteast 20k+ uniques per day. Don't hit up advert networks till right time as if they reject you once your probably done.
Here's where we started 6 years ago. Try not to laugh as you blow up the flying doughnut spaceships. Mmmmm.... doughnuts.

Web games profitable / doable? (http://forums.indiegamer.com/showthread.php?t=252&highlight=online+games)
Pitch: make some good online games and we'll license em or if good try/buy games we'll run em on rev split plus get em out to our partners.

btw - came across this interesting site recently. Kind of nice for new/smaller online games developers.

I was wondering about licensing too but I'm kinda curious how can I get this contacts, do I need to make my own approach (n how n where) or must I just wait till someone contacted me ??
How much does it worth to license a flash game ?

I have webpage with around 10 web games I have made over the years. Getting approx. 2000 uniques pr. day and running Google Adsense. It pays but not really enough call it a business and certainly not enough to make a living of it.
I am currently looking into doing J2ME ports, mostly of technical interest but also based on the idea that I could build a second revenue source.
The sites that are making money of web games, I think, are the portals, that simply collect a huge number of game links and send people off with a popunder, or an ad in a frame.
