I've tried to contact Shockwave many times and the best I got is an answer about 4 months later. Does this happen to everybody?

Well, when we sent them an e-mail regarding our latest game, they said they would be interested to see a demo.

But later on I had to e-mail them again and see if they would release the game. I don't think they would have contacted us on their own.

I think it just depends if you have a game they want.

With one of my games, I got a initial response within a few days and a follow-up a week later from Shockwave.

However with my other game, I didn't get an initial response until 6 months! I completely forgot that I ever submitted the game to Shockwave.com. Once I got that response though, I was pretty miffed. I guess it's good that they eventually replied, but after 6 months I almost rather just not get a response at all. It's somewhat insulting to get a reply half a year later saying, "Sorry for the delay. Oh btw, we're not interested in your game." As if I was waiting on pins and needles for their decision. Sorry, that boat sailed away 5 months earlier.

I wrote a fairly scathing reply, but I guess fortunate for me their replyTo address was invalid. :p

I'm not trying to burn bridges, but a few of the portals need to be careful not to burn bridges with developers during the submission process. You never know if me or someone else might have a game that shockwave really wants, but if we had prior bad experiences with their submission process, then we might be reluctant to work with them and might instead choose another portal.

One thing I've admired about Real is that I've always got prompt responses from them even if they weren't interested in my games. They've been very professional and treated me like a professional as well. They get swamped with tons of game submissions yet they're still able to get replies out in a reasonable time-frame.

However, I will say your mileage may vary.

Chris: you expressed exactly what I think. I will never submit a game to them again (at least that's how I feel now). The minimum I expect is some respect and courtesy; replying on a decent time frame no matter if the answer is positive or not (as most people do). I haven't sent just one game... this has happened with at least 6, so it's not just a single incident... there must be something more behind (too few resources or just not much care about new products or developers... nothing good for sure).

Also when you get a reply, the "team" signs the message... that's like talking to the wall... when I submit another game I cannot tell if that one will be reviewed by the whole team, the same person as a previous submission, or simply it goes to the "another developer bugging" pile.

I don't want to jinx myself. Who knows if they'll actually take my game, but they didn't take too long to get back to me. I think was a little less than a week. They said they'd review it at the next prospect meeting.

Damn, I've probably jinxed myself. Knock on wood, salt over the shoulder!
