View Full Version : Indie developers with a weblog

I've seen sometimes people here saying "I replied to this on my weblog" and I'm wondering how many indie developers have a weblog, so we can make a list here. Since indie developer is a pretty broad concept and we could end up with a huge list, let's add a brief description about the blog next to the URL/name, like "He mostly talks about its own projects under development".
I'll start with some of the most well-known here:
- Thomas Warfield's A Shareware Life (http://www.asharewarelife.com), mostly talks about events happening in the shareware community as well as its own projects.
- Jack Norton's Blog (http://winterwolves.net/blog/), centered about its own developments and personal life.
- David Michael's JoeIndie (http://www.joeindie.com/blog/index.php), pretty interesting, covers any indie-related topic.
- Kai Backman's weblog (http://www.kaibackman.com/), ShortHike (aka Space Station Manager) related.

Funny, I came here to post an announcement :)
I started a blog yesterday, Gabriel on Graphics (http://gabrielongraphics.blogspot.com) It's not about indie game development but about computer graphics. So if you want an one-liner,
Gabriel on Graphics (http://%3C/a%3E%3Ca%20href=%22http://gabrielongraphics.blogspot.com/%22%20target=%22_blank%22%3Ehttp://gabrielongraphics.blogspot.com%3C/a%3E) - Theory and practice of computer graphics, the easy way
Here is my blog, but I'm pretty bad at updating it often. The scope of my game also keeps changing the more I learn how difficult certain parts are going to be to program.
www.whitespace.net.nz (http://www.whitespace.net.nz) - Trying desperately to create a hexagonal tile based strategy game.

indie in a maze (http://jankom.blogspot.com) I try to make realtime log of someone who wants to make it in indie-gamedev. For scientific purposes only.
Not that I'm anyone cool, but I decided to open mine to the public.

http://www.otakunozoku.com/ Product reviews, book reviews, personal news, cool software hacks.
Not so much a blog as just my personal website that I have always had (going on 10 years now).
And it is updated as and when I can afford the time away from my paying work. Actually, I have three new items to be posted to it within the next seven days.

Not that I'm anyone cool, but I decided to open mine to the public.I'm not cool either, that's why I didn't have a blog until yesterday, and why "my" blog isn't about me :)

Dustin Sacks' blog (http://randomdude.com/blog/), talking about my life with a large part of it concerning the games business. If you only want the business stuff without the personal fluff then you can just stick to the shareware category (http://randomdude.com/blog/cat/shareware).

My blog is in my sig. When I started it, I didn't think I would update it so regularly, but almost every day there is a new post. Sometimes two or three.
/me stops tooting his own horn.
I'll be sure to add the blogs here to my RSS feeds.
EDIT: I just realized that in the future my sig might change, so for posterity's sake, here is a link to GBGames' Blog: http://www.gbgames.com/blog

And one more: Piddlepup Blog (http://piddlepup.com/?q=blog)
It basically comes down to being a blog under another name, and it's not a single developer, but here's our dev diary (http://www.moonpod.com/board/viewforum.php?f=14). ( RSS Feed (http://www.moonpod.com/English/news_rss.php?feed=podblog) ).
...now two months out of date, but I'm working on that :)

I'm going through some of the blogs, and I'm finding that some people have apparently rolled their own or something because there are no RSS feeds. I am basically keeping up with blogs by using Firefox Active Bookmarks, so non-RSS blogs are just more difficult to track. I would strongly suggest setting up some RSS feeds for your site if you don't have one. I've never done it myself, but I hear it isn't very hard to do.
