My kids have outgrown all the reader rabbit, magic school bus, etc. etc. games - and all that's left seem to be either Barbie or Hotwheels nowadays. Does anyone know of indie games that are in the same spirit as educational games? Like learning math while shooting aliens, or going on an adventure while picking up phonics, etc. Seems like the genre of educational games is like in a complete comatose state... My kids are playing "boxed" games that are at least 5 years old.
Combining indie development with an educational component seems like an area that might be ripe for some new games?

Maybe you can find something on www.bravekidgames.com (http://www.bravekidgames.com) . There are games from various indies there. I am just in adding seeason so aprox. 10 games should be added this week. But most of them are not specifically educational.

There are some educational adventure games, but they're often pretty advanced from what I hear - university chemistry type stuff. :) Or bible quizzes, depending on the developer...

Find the worst Indie game you can and get them to buy it with their allowance. It'll teach 'em a thing or two about money.

I've sold a big chunk of Democracy games to Ohio University politics students if that helps...

Tentons on these forums made one.
Think Big Games (http://www.thinkbiggames.com/modules/news/)
but only he would be able to say how his sales have been going.

I think I saw an article recently about some bank using Second Life to try and teach money-management to teenagers, too...

Blue Bug Games (http://www.bluebuggames.com[/url) is another indie focusing on the educational games market.
