Turn Based Strategy War Game
I seriously wish there were more fun turn-based strategy war games out there. I have looked through the Popcap and RA list and all the games on there I've already played. They dont really have a big turn-based strategy war game section :-P

Resource Management Simulation

I dont like rollar coaster tycoon, nor do I like the other Tycoons. But dang if someone made a fantasy Mgmt Sim that would be awesome. I've been longing to play one for a long time. Maybe something similar to "evil genius" or "dungeon Keeper" - Something like Castles II!! Or Civliization!!

Space Sim

I love space-sims. I would play ones where you trade and explore. I've played a few recently but they seem to be lacking in something. Eve online put me to sleep! I would love to play one that was fast. Even a 2D simple space sim where you trade and do contracts would be fun, as long as you dont have to wait forever. Only thing is the battles have to be fun to watch!

Space Flight Sim

I love Space-Flight sims. It's too bad that they dont make them anymore. I played Freespace 2 for months and made my own missions. It's too bad nobody makes anything like this anymore :(

Well, there you have it.. Anyone know where I can find Indie-games like these? Or anyone working on one?

I'm no expert, but offhand, that's

Lands Of Lore and Slay, and Supremacy, and Lux, and kind of Oasis,
Battles Of Norghan and kind of that one castle game that's exactly like that one ant game,
Flatspace and kind of Strange Adventures In Infinite Space,
and Void War, Cellblock Squadrons, Shadow Stars, and lots and lots of others,

respectively. For the first 3 types, I would agree that they are rare, but they certainly exist. For the last, I'd call them pretty common! Seems like every 'hardcore indie' makes one.

Peruse the Monthly Round-Up (plug!) at www.gametunnel.com and you'll find lots of indie games in every genre.

Plenty of those here...

I of the Enemy (though not turn based) is an indie RTS (not sure the link, try grabbing it from www.gametunnel.com)

Numerous space sims - Void Wars? Several others.
Not to mention space station sim - Short Hike

Resource Management - Artifact
A Civ-ish game, but very casual - Oasis

You should also check out Space Rangers (2). Not my cup of tea, but forum buzz was really strong on both OO and Qto3.

And people do so still make space combat sims. So there!

Moonbase Commander (http://www.gamespot.com/pc/strategy/moonbasecommander/)!!! I'm not normally a big strategy fan, but Moonbase Commander (turn-based strategy) is one of my favorite games ever. It's not technically indie - it was made by a division of Infogrames (*cough*it's not atari, dagnabbit!*cough*) and, to my knowledge, isn't sold online - but it has a very indie feel to it. Look around your local game-selling stores, you should be able to find a copy for pretty cheap.

Hmm, apperently there's a demo: http://www.fileplanet.com/111163/110000/fileinfo/MoonBase-Commander-Demo

Starshatter! I bought that a few weeks ago. I played it for a while but I found it to be more difficult than freespace. A LOT more difficult. So I played it for a while but got frustrated with it. I think that you should be able to effectivly hit the targets from a farther range (like in freespace 2) - Other than that, the graphics are really nice and the ENGINE IS AWESOME. By far it has the best Sim engine since freespace 2 and X-wing / Tie Fighter.

The level editor in Starshatter didn't seem to have enough options IMO. Like you cant have a ship starting out with no shields, etc. Also no "waves" like in X-wing / Tie Fighter (which i loved)

Still the game was very nice. I just stopped playing it because it was to friggin hard lol.

The best thing about Starshatter is that you can fly the big ships too. That is AWESOME! I've dreamed of that happening since Tie Fighter came out and it finally did. I really hope that you make a Star Shatter ][ .. very much!

Lands Of Lore...
Did you mean Land of Legends?

Lands of Lore is about 12 years old or so, if I remember correctly.

Land of Legends is my turn-based strategy game, which is released 1 week from today. (yay!)

It looks very interesting. It sort of reminds me of an old Genesis game called "Warsong" but also seems unique to its own. IS this like FF Tactics? Is there any resource manaagement?

Oops, hey I remember Lands Of Lore! I think it was the one I saw ads for in magazines that said you could invent your own spells. Or maybe it wasn't. Maybe it was that bard's-taley one I actually played. Man, there used to be a lot of RPGs.

I meant Land Of Legends.

Lands of lore was a fun game too! You know.... Elders Scroll: ARENA you could make your own spells! I used to play it just because I wanted to make spells lol

Turn based strategy: Laser Squad Nemesis by Codo Technologies (the guys who did X-Com). Think X-Com style gameplay, with an additional multiplayer mode.

http://www.lasersquadnemesis.com/

I also just picked up Rebelstar Tactical Command for Gameboy Advance. Was done by the same company. Basically X-Com with no base management. It's pretty fun, probably the game I've been playing the most lately.

The closest thing to compare it to would be Advance Wars. There's no real RPG elements in LOL, nor any perpetual characters. Every battle is a fresh instance, seperate from the last. (Except for the campaign, where the missions are linked via a plot.) But if you like turn-based strategy, I think you'll like it quite a bit.

The demo is available at http://www.shrapnelgames.com/Tiny_Hero/Land_of_Legends/6.htm if you'd like to try it out.

Hmm, never heard of that happening before. FWIW, I tested it myself right now, and had no problems.

Hiro Antagonist,

I downloaded and installed the game. It has a great feel to it and I am excited to play. However, on the second tutorial mission I couldnt keep the archer at the tree. I moved the archer to the tree and would click to "wait" there but then the archer would move back and the lady elf would say "you must move it to this location.. try again" and it was pointing at the tree! I tried over and over again but it just didnt work. Then I started hitting keys and then it showed the winning conditions and I couldnt close the winning conditions window when I clicked the X. so I just closed the game... I'll try again tomorrow.. maybe it was a "fluke"

The game genres you mention require functioning logic and thought processes, hence you will never find them on a casual portal.

Try the Combat Mission series for good WWII turn based combat:
http://www.battlefront.com/index.htm

I'm a fan of the Starwraith series, Riftspace probably the best so far:
http://starfighter.home.att.net/index.htm
But I also second the nomination for Cellblock Squadrons!

The other genres you mentioned aren't really my thing, so I can't help you there.

Thanks for the nomination ;)

One thing that's good about the indie space game scene is that there's a lot of variation. Between Cellsquads, Starshatter, the Starwraith games (and so on) you have everything from fast paced action and online multiplayer, to trading and deep tactical combat. I'm with Milo... space sims are strong in the indie world.

Anyhow, my nomination has to go towards Flatspace. It's a neat little trading/combat game... and you don't need a monster computer to run it!

Well, I thought that casual games were puzzle games only? I mean indie-games arent casual games are they? I mean arent casual games just the puzzle games and match 3 games etc?
