I released Xeno Assault during the winter, and Desperate Space during the summer. In total Desperate Space's first month's sales have been a lot less than Xeno Assault's, but conversion rate is higher (IE. I've had a lot less downloads). Baring in mind I used pretty much the same advertising strategy for both titles.

For example advertising on GameXtazy for Desperate Space bought in less than 1/3 the traffic than Xeno Assault did in the same slot during winter. Obviously this probably could be something to do with the ad not being so good at hooking, but it seems too big a difference to be down to the ad alone, as they both had a similar style to them (ship flying along in random action scene with some description text next to it).

So has anyone else noticed a similar, and significent summer low point in sales? Or do you think it's probably just down to bad ads/luck?

Yep, I've had a dip the past two summers. It started picking up again in a big way about ten days ago, which I'm now attempting to capitalize on with a nicely targeted ad campaign. It seems logical. Nice weather, days out, the beach, vacations. Soccer moms have kids at home to deal with. There are lots of reasons not to be at a PC during the summer. Unless, of course you release Kangaroo Racers, which appeals primarily to a Southern Hemisphere audience, in which case the reverse would be true.

I expected this summer to be like those of past where both traffic & sales go down. Oddly traffic was barely down, meanwhile we enjoyed our best sales ever. Pavlina wrote previously about summer sales spikes, had written it off myself but perhaps there is something there. People in hot climates stuck indoors all day. People on vacation looking for something to kill extra time. Or maybe was all just a fluke.

"Unless, of course you release Kangaroo Racers"
trust me the season wouldn't make that sell any more ;)

This is the first successful summer I've ever had... Ultratron consistently sells 1 or two a day at least and has done since release in June. We don't get many downloads though, just a way high CR :)

Atlantis has sold consistently since its release, I did notice a small dip towards the end of August but it's back up to release day levels now.

Garden Golf's sales did drop like a rock since end of June, but now they're back "up" (so to speak) to 2 a day, sometimes 3. I guess people can't play minigolf outdoors anymore (at least not here and not today, the city is in the process of being flooded, good thing we live at the top of a hill!)

Best regards,
