I am developing a new game right now. Has anyone had any experience working with them? Are there any other options, Miniclip? Do most authors try to get a big distribution channel, or go on your own? Whats the percent cut usually for this kind of sponsor, worse than 50/50? Do they try to plaster their logo on the front and remove yours or both can stay?

Do they try to plaster their logo on the front and remove yours or both can stay? They do insist on platering their logo on the front, but they do not remove yours. However, they require you remove all links to your website from inside the game.

I think 40% royalty for the developer is pretty generous nowadays. GarageGames gives 65%, Reflexive 40%, and then I think every other portal goes lower than that. I'd say now the norm is 25% to 35%. Yeah, it sucks.

If you want to do a purchase game on Miniclip (most miniclip games are free) then you need a web playable version (flash, shockwave, java, clever activex doohicky (eg hamsterball). The net revenue split is 50/50.

Does anyone know what Diner Dash did to become so popular? Did they reject any exclusive rights and tried to put it in every site possible? I see their game everywhere! I'm trying to decide on the most beneficial route for me to take.

they made a fun game that appeals to their audience. wherever it was available it sold well, thus more it would be available at more sites.

Some major portals will not touch your game so do not assume that you even have the capability to get published with them. This is because some of them now look for established earning titles.

You may need to build up to them.

And then they signed an exclusive publishing agreement with Play First who used their many contacts in the industry to aggressively pursued distribution on all the major casual game sites.

true, I wasn't really thinking of Gamelab (the devs). I still the think the game would of been a hit anyways. After all they(PlayFirst) did release quite a few duds, Subways Scramble(designed by the same person who designed Diner Dash I believe) and to a much lesser extent Spellagories (a game which I liked quite a bit).

I guess you haven't seen some of the games making it onto portals lately. The bar has been set higher and at the same it's been set lower (if that makes any sense).

If you make a quality game that is for the casual audience, meaning you know what they look for in a game and designed yours from the get go with that in mind then you should get listed at least a few key places... Real & Big Fish, even if Real isn't the biggest channel I consider it the most important. It's a safe bet that if your game does well on either of those 2 the more difficult portals like Yahoo and Pogo will come calling.
