We have recently been offered a publishing deal for one of our products on the PS2, we do not have the skills in-house.

If you have good PS2 skills and an SDK or know of somebody that does then please make contact.

Best regards,

Tim.

Hi Indiepath.T,

You will need to sign up with sony as regards to developing for PS2. The publisher should be able to get that started for you.

Depending on the game you're making, it probably wouldn't be too hard to just use the sdk supplied by Sony. If you need a full 3d engine now, i'd recommend RenderWare; I've used that for a couple of projects and it's nice to work with. I should warn you, however, RenderWare is not cheap. Any engine solution for ps2 is really expensive.

If you just want to use the sony sdk, it's free, they have lots of support and examples. You just have to be a registered developer.

I can't help you on the programming side unfortunately, i'm just too busy.

Hope this helps.

Make sure you don't get burned by retail milestones. Rareware is very expensive but probably best cos you can develop it on pc, and publish it on PS2.

I'd rather contract someone to do the work for us. Having to pick up a new platform and learn it just puts release dates further back.

Anyone?

Make sure you don't get burned by retail milestones. Rareware is very expensive but probably best cos you can develop it on pc, and publish it on PS2.Having had a lot of experience with Renderware (I assume that's what you mean by Rarewera) across all platforms I can assure you it's not straightforward at all to develop a game on PC and publish it on PS2.

For a start you'll really need ProDG - this will let you use DevStudio and set up a different build setting for each target. Then you've got to pay attention to texture sizes, poly counts and a bunch of other things that developing on the PC won't help you with.

If you develop for a week or two on the PC you'll find the PS2 version will need extra time spent on it to bring it up to scratch.

Renderware is a good choice - I had a shoot em up going in under a day even though it was my first PS2 development. I'd recommend you work on the PS2 from day one rather than aim for PC then hope you can flick a switch and publish it on PS2.
