I have to detach myself aurally from what I personally love because music is something most people are far more particular about. Much more so than visuals.

But music is a different choice altegether. It has to fit a wide criteria: must not be repetitive, must not be a style that is too niche, and alienates other listeners and also mustn't be so neutral that it ends up boring!

Whats your take on this?

That's a tricky one, but i guess it's what fits best with the game in question.

For example, i don't particularly like techno but the music for Cosmobots fits it perfectly. And i enjoy playing that game with the music turned up. At the same time, i wouldn't like it if it was in a RPG.

i'm not a big fan of Orchestral pieces on games either. They tend to be too overbearing.

Also, It seems to me that any musician worth their salt will look at the game and have a feel for what style would work with it anyway.

At the end of the day, if it's your game. You'll have a fair idea too.

I think the worst decision ever made for audio in a game was on the original grand tourismo. The japanese version had rock music in and it worked really well. For Europe, they put in awful dance music....I had to play it with the sound down.
