Something we don't talk about much here is the Alternate Reality Game. I realize we are a small group of independent developers, but should that limit us to thinking about the same old 2D side-scrollers and puzzle games? I don't think so. Okay, I realize that some of you are out to make a buck or two on your title ... but I'd like to be conceptual with the rest of you for a while. I think there is a real important and compelling element of storytelling at work here -- something pretty much lacking from a lot of games today.

? e r p l e x C i t y (http://www.perplexcity.com) is the latest and seemingly most involved iteration of the ARG. I'd like to know what you think.

ARG's are rather entertaining. I enjoyed checking out the highlights from I Love Bees and Our Colony. I've seen this Perplexcity somewhere, but my question is who's sponsoring this one, 'cause thus far all the ARG's I've been aware of had some side motive.

And this is probably better suited for the general chat catagory, but still. Neat.

For some reason I thought I posted in GenChat ... oh well, 4th of July is still lingering. And apparently I was mistaken.

I, too wonder about the ulterior motives. Though one of Perplexcity's creators (Adrian Hon, I believe) was an avid I Love Bees follower. So, could it be the experience of the game they are after?

Looks like it's marketing a trading card game to me, after a cursory look at the website.
