Small Blue Robot Saves Universe from Retro Invasion!

June 15th, 2005 - (Somerset, UK) In 1982 Robotron defeated an invasion force destined for world domination… or so we thought. Now humanity is extinct, but in our last dying days a new hero was born: Ultratron! Puppygames (www.puppygames.com) is thrilled to announce mankind’s final and finest hour with the release of Ultratron to avenge humanity’s defeat! Download it today for Windows, Mac, and Linux.

Realizing that humans had come to rely on graphics rather than skill with their weapons, the retro invasion began. Our 3D technology was no match for the 2D invaders and all our greatest heroes were consumed in their terrible onslaught. It was only in the last days of humanity did we fight fire with fire and created a 2D hero of our own. Now Ultratron is out for vengeance, to save countless civilizations across the universe and end the tyranny of the Four Bots of the Apocalypse.

Take Ultratron through over 40 levels of bot-slaying mayhem against over 70 enemies in classic retro 2D! Snag power-ups to your guns, shields, and smart bombs. Gain special bonuses such as attack drones, sentinels, multi-shot, bounce shot, and more! Blast your way through 4 evil bosses who exist only to bring about a retro-style ending to the universe as we know it.

The modern 3D heroes of today couldn’t save the human race; our false reliance on technology over ability caused us to believe ourselves safe. Now, in our dying gasp, we see the error of our ways: The skill in gaming has returned for a final showdown between man and machine.

Download the free Ultratron demo and see if you still have the gaming skills you were born with: Available now from www.puppygames.com on Mac, Windows, and Linux.

Oh my.. it's a pity since I like the story a lot. I don't know if it's in the game (I mean more than the 'avenge the human race' part).

Ouch.. Puppygames.com... sigh.. oh well...

Also why do the robots say die humanoid if you're also a robot?

Do customers get a discount when you make a mistake? That's two this month? :)

well.. if you're shaped like a human. head, torso, arms, legs, etc. then you're a humanoid. that's why they say 'humanoid life-signs' in startrek, even if they're talking about aliens. :}

Hmmm, Cas looked it over and didn't mention the .com vs. .net error. I could have sworn I checked it but obviously not.

The bright side is the e-mail address and website links for screenshots, downloads, and other things for the editors are all correct. This may negatively impact "foot traffic" from the news though.

This would be "major error #2" in the history of VGsmart. Hard to say if that is good or bad.

But also the second one caught immediately by people on this forum, Joe. Maybe you should make a policy of posting here first? :)

Sounds like a good plan actually.

I donno... I have to say this. This sort of mistake is really bad. Its a "heads should roll" mistake. There's just no excuse for sending out a press release without checking the all the links first. I can't imagine not clicking on them at least once to see they work. Both princec and terin are at fault here. Both of them should have checked those links. It's really unblelievable to me that it got out the door.

Unbelievable things happen all the time. There's no justifying it or reasoning it. It happened. I can say I do check links and confirmed the right URL before I wrote the release but somehow I managed to mistake the .net for .com and somehow did not go back and double check.

What I plan on doing to help ensure this does not happen again is sending a template "check list" of things I want the owners of games to double check prior to sending a release.

I keep picturing you and princec in a boardroom with Donald Trump in a scene from the apprentice...

Ya know, I was just reading some older threads and came across this (from this thread, last year (http://forums.indiegamer.com/showthread.php?t=1505)):
No, I can't be bothered [to register www.puppygames.com], and I truly believe that people very, very, very rarely type www.puppygames.com directly into their address bar. Oh the irony. ;)

But seriously man.. you should have that domain. This .net stuff is ridiculous. It's almost as bad as the .co.uk addresses that keep popping up. Why in gods name would you get only a co.uk domain? It blows my mind...

I think it's time the truth came out - Cas loves making awesome games, but he hates money. :)

You know if you look at it in that light.. that Cas is secretly plotting to avoid making any money with his games for reasons we don't yet understand.. then indeed a lot of the seemingly strange arbitrary decisions he makes suddenly make total sense and are completely logical!

Hey, I know a place where you can register .crap domains for only 99 cents a year! Think of the savings! :D

(Yes, not-at-all.crap is taken)

Awwwww Noooooo!!! Cas has some of the worst luck I've ever seen.

It's a good press release though.
