View Full Version : What would you change about your site if you were going to get a spot on TV?

It seems I may be able to get my game on a TV show. This has lead me to wonder what I should change about my site and my configuration.

I'm seriously considering pulling the demo version off of the site for the duration of the promotion. I know this is a controversial move, but I am thinking that this is an audience that will be more interested in trying the game once to see if it really is cool.

In its place, we are going to offer a 30 second flash movie. Very similar in format to what Nintendo has done with Polarium -- http://polarium.nintendods.com/index2.html

In your case I'd put BOTH! It will be frustrating for users to see the flash movie and how cool the game is but being unable to buy it.

Depends on the TV show. In certain circumstances, pulling the demo will make sense - you're going to be taking a bandwidth hit anyway, and people who were brought to the site from seeing the game on TV are going to be more likely (IN MY OPINION) to make the purchase without trying the demo, if they liked what they saw.

If you have the demo, they all attempt to download, possibly fail if your bandwidth can't take it, and might Lose The Moment...

But I don't know. We'd need tests to be certain. :)

The game would be purchasable through a clearly obvious link. You get to see the game on the website in a movie, and on the tv show.

My bandwidth can take the demo downloads. I have fat pipes and lots of 'em.

Hey, I fall for the impulse buy every time I visit a game store, and that one time with Gish. Do it. :D

That's about it, isn't it? The demo kills the impulse buy, and potentially sates the customer's curiosity.

OT: Thank you for that link! All this time I was worried that Nintendo made a huge mistake with the DS, but seeing the demos from the bottom right box made it clear that it's got a lot of potential.
