In this link http://www1.folha.uol.com.br/folha/informatica/ult124u18353.shtml (it's in Portuguese, sorry) they say that the best selling games in UK are casual games :
iFone (Tetris), Iomo (Pub Pool), Digital Bridges (Fifa Football) and Namco (Pac-Man)
It's a research by Mobile Games Analyst, between march 2004 and feb 2005.
I thought someone could find it relevant !
Bye !

I don't know about you guys, but I've found myself enjoying a lot more casual games lately or even more hardcore indie games than typical hardcore retail games. Maybe it's because I have less time now and I prefer to spend 5 minutes each hour matching colors than spending an hour trying to know how to play or watching beautifully rendered (but completely boring) cutscenes from a mainstream game.

I've been playing Zelda Classic. I feel like a cranky old man. :(

Some years ago I would spend > 40 hours in a good RPG.
Now, I can´t play more than 15 hours in a good action game
I think if I'll be able to spend more than 15 minuntes in any game in the near future ....

The problem with mainstream games is they are all the same. I thought I'd grown out of games around the time I turned 20, but then I played a really really good game and realized it wasn't me, it was just that 99% of mainstream games suck. :)

These are all games for cell phones. I can't think of a mobile game that is not casual.

For myself one of the problems with commercial retail non casual games is how involved they are. I have Butcher Bay installed on my machine, and it looks like a pretty cool game but I literally DREAD the idea of clicking that icon and having to go through the horrible loading process and get into it etc... I love being able to get right in and right out of a game. I guess that's a reflection of my age and how much spare time I have.

Definitely RE4 is one of the very few retail games I want to play, but 50€ is something I'm NOT paying to play a game. I'll wait until I find it used or drops to half price.

mobile phone companies are hardly going to commission a report that says that complex RTS games are more popular are they?
I'd take any such 'research' with a heavy bag of salt.

Even in the US Retail space the casual games do very well. Just look at the Simms and all the tycoon games.
