View Full Version : List of Portals
ManuelFLara

I'm sometimes told about a given portal or I just come to it accidentally that seems like a good place to submit my game to, and I think 'how many more will be out there that I don't know of yet?'.
So I've created this thread so we list every portal / distribution channel / on-line distributor we can so we have some kind of index of portals.
Here's the ones I know of, in no particular order:
www.realarcade.com - Real Arcade (http://www.realarcade.com)
www.bigfishgames.com - Big Fish Games (http://www.bigfishgames.com)
www.gamefiesta.com - Game Fiesta (http://www.gamefiesta.com)
www.reflexive.com - Reflexive Arcade (http://www.reflexive.com)
www.garagegames.com - Garage Games (http://www.garagegames.com)
www.arcadetown.com - Arcade Town (http://www.arcadetown.com/)
www.shockwave.com - Shockwave (http://www.shockwave.com)
www.grab.com - Grab.com (http://www.grab.com/games/)
www.oberongames.com - Oberon Media (http://www.oberongames.com/)
www.trygames.com - Try Games (http://www.trygames.com/)
www.gamehouse.com - GameHouse (http://www.gamehouse.com)
zone.msn.com - MSN Gaming Zone (http:///zone.msn.com)
games.yahoo.com - Yahoo Games (http://games.yahoo.com/)
www.pogo.com - Pogo (http://www.pogo.com)
onlinegames.channel.aol.com - AOL Games (http://onlinegames.channel.aol.com/)

All of these but Pogo, Yahoo and AOL have "submit your game" links or emails - anyone knows how to get in touch with a Pogo, Yahoo or AOL producer?
BTW - www.alawar.com
I think AOL might be run by Pogo by the looks of it. I think how to contact pogo is buried somewhere in the EA site. I'm pretty sure I recall seeing it before.

@Sirrus, Everyone has a different definition of what a “portal” is but in this particular discussion ManuelFLara was looking for places to submit games for distribution. Many of the web sites mention in that last post do not distribute third party games on their web sites. PopCap has been known to acquire some games that were originally developed outside but they own those games and help make them. They do not distribute other people’s games. I believe PlayFirst is similar in that they only publish their own games (some or all of which were made by outside developers under contacts with PlayFirst). If you are selling your own game on your own web site, and submit it to a few portals, you are not going to be a be able to submit your game to Pop Cap or Play First. I am not sure about some of those other web sites either. All those sites sell game, but they are not all “good place to submit my game” which is what ManuelFLara asked for.

lets not forget zango :P (please do not submit there)
James,
I'm honestly surprised by your response. Did you miss the announcement by PopCap discussing opening the doors to other developers for the first time (in which products are submitted to them directly)?
Perhaps there is some more leeway with PlayFirst, but PopCap is essense a portal now. Simply because it does not host as huge of a collection as Real, etc. does not detract from the fact that they allow for submissions.
PopCap isn't interested in distributing games. They are looking for games to acquire. Like they did with Insaniquarium, Rocket Mania etc.
So it's still the same. They are not a portal. Although ManuelFlara could submit a game to them to see if they would be interested in working with him. Something tells me they are looking for more innovative casual games though. Not more match games (Unless of course they have an ingenious twist I'm sure ;))
Ok let's not derail the thread. Let's just agree to disagree.
It's true, PopCap arent a distributor/portal, if they accept games to publish, those games become PopCap games, and the developer isn't allowed to redistribute it elsewhere and keep the profits. I wouldn't mind if PopCap published my game though :)
EDIT: erm... what happened to the last few posts?
Why not make this one sticky and keep adding new info to the main list? Would be resoursful to any reader without having to read all the posts, and that way it doesn't matter if the discussion gets derailed a bit.

http://www.gametrust.com - Game Trust
Game Trust actually is not a portal- www.gametrust.com is strictly a business to business site. Game Trust is an infrastructure company that powers community and commerce to many portals, like MiniClip and Shockwave. We are the guys behind the scenes, so to speak. So, with respect to game developers, we're a distributor, publisher, and technology provider.

TotalGaming.net - http://www.totalgaming.net
Our focus is on polished, fun, games that we feel would also appeal to the more hardcore gamer. Anyone who would like to submit their games to us for consideration can email me (bclair@stardock.com) or PM me here. We don't offer exclusives via TGN as we prefer to let developers keep all their channel options open.

Anyone know if http://www.hotgames.com is really powered by iwin.com?
I visited it today and it aggressively tries to install what appears to be the following:

I think that they work as affiliates with several portals. Here is information from their help:
-------
Who sells the Download Games titles?
We partner with a number of trusted outside companies to bring you the best and most complete catalog of Premium (Downloadable) Games. Sometimes, when you purchase one of these Premium (Downloadable) Game titles the transaction is actually made between you and our partner company. Don't worry, to protect our consumers we have reviewed each of our partners for good quality customer service and trustworthy eCommerce practices. Depending on the title, some transactions may be made with the following companies: TryMedia, Gamehouse (owned by RealNetworks), RegNow, and Reflexive Entertainment.

AOL don't work with developers directly, they work only with Oberon, TryMedia and GameHouse.
Oberon has many distribution channels, but AOL isn't included in this list. You need to sign the additional agreement.

AOL don't work with developers directly, they work only with Oberon, TryMedia and GameHouse.
Game Trust can also distribute your games directly to AOL Games. However - as is the case with any of AOL's direct distribution partners - nobody can guarantee access to AOL Games - they obviously make the call.

For the second quarter of 2006, revenue grew 8% to $89.4 million compared to $82.7 million reported in the second quarter of 2005. For the second quarter of 2006, revenue in the Consumer Products and Services segment was as follows: Games revenue was $21.2 million, a 55% increase over the second quarter of 2005;
If Real is doing these kinds of numbers, what is the likely order of the top 3 portals?
(Quote is from their quarterly report)

You are welcomed to submit your games/software here :
http://www.mobileground.com/page-mgr_submit.html
and news, here :

also, if you PM-me your title's name, I will approve it as a category highlight, to drive you more downloads.

I just set my site up this week http://www.justgamedemos.com. I am offering free hosting for demos under 50MB.
My goal is to try an distinguish this site from all the big portals which seem to have 95% of the same games between them, or are all simply affiliate sites with 80% of the games falling into the same genre.
Being I just set up the site this week, it's a bit naked at the moment. For now, I am only reaching out to authors. I will not be doing any marketing to the general public until I have a large enough library of demos to offer.
That being said, you have nothing to lose by submitting your demo to the site, and once we officially 'go live' it's more exposure for you.
