I hear so often talk about how many "Match 3" games there are out there and it got me to wondering, how many could there really be? So I decided to do some exploring and see what was out there in PC land (as there don't seem to be too, too many on the Mac side of things). Here's what I've found so far, with approximate categories...

"Bejewelled" Types:
Bejewelled 1&2
Big Kahuna Reef
Jewel Quest
FaceIt

"Collapse" Types:
Super Collapse 1, 2 and Crunch
Big Money
Bounce Out

"Atomica" Types:
Mind your Marbles
Penguin Puzzle

"Puzzle Bobble" Types:
Snood
Pop & Drop

Others:
Zuma & Luzor
Magic Vines
Chainz
Super Glinx
Brick Shooter
Assorted from eGames

Admittedly, much of this is from searching portals, but there don't appear to be as many as I thought there'd be from all the talk I hear about the category. Am I missing any big Match 3 games?

There are ZILLIONS. You only listed the succesful ones. For each match-3 game that makes money for its creator, there's 10 also-rans that don't sell. Don't be fooled into thinking the market isn't saturated, it is. There's still money to be made there, but a simple clones is not gonna accomplish it.

Bah - way to complicated. I give you the newest craze in casual gaming:

Match-1 !!!

Just point and click. No, never mind that. Let's eliminate the "point" - just make the cursor cover the entire screen, and you're bound to hit something. Just click, click, click.

My god, it's full of stars!!!!

Brought to you by the makers of Untris (TM), for people who felt that Tetris was just way too challenging.

No, actually it's called "Collapse!"

This game is without a doubt the lamest *successful* game ever made. I would go so far as to say it's not even a game.

It's one of those things that soothes the soul when you're angry at work feeling tired and worn down and just want to SUCCEED at something.

I can't imagine who buys it and takes it home. I can't imagine even downloading it. Browser version only. :)

Lame or not, it's very successful (there's even a licensed SpongeBob version of it). Hence, there's something to be learned from it.

it's not a match one game either. In fact it's not a match game at all. You don't match any pieces, you identify groups. Different game mechanic entirely. I'm sure most players probably refer to it as a match 3 game though.
