As you might know, recently lot of phpbb2 forum users got hacked.
I was wondering if using a free Blog can lead to the same problems. I had a blog using Wordpress, and got users spamming the whole archive with porn links or poker links :)
Anyone that uses blog, is painless enough or has lot of patches/updates to apply, etc that waste all your day time?

The only reason why phpbb is getting hacked so often is that it is very popular (without a doubt the most used bb on the internet), not nessicarly that its free. The more popular a piece of software is, the more people are going to be writing automated hacks for it. These automated hacks and scripts will mainly be taken advantage of by script kiddies, and there are a lot of script kiddies around. (Take starcraft for example, a new maphack comes out almost right after every update, they are easy to find because starcraft is so popular).
The real solution here is just to get a bb/blog that is still good, but isnt majorly popular. The chances of it getting hacked are then much slimmer because there will not be many automated tools script kiddies can get their hands on. (Maybe none)
Hotscripts.com (http://www.hotscripts.com/) would be a good place to look.

Hey Jack,
I miss your blog! I use Movabletype. It allows me to moderate comments. Sure, I get spammers sending stuff, but I can easily delete them. I would say I spend about 5 minutes of maintenance every few days.
Check them out.

Hey Jack,
I miss your blog! I use Movabletype.
At 199$ isn't really cheap!! :)
(since I'd use to promote my business, I can't apply for personal license...)
I looked at Cliffsky and GoodSol blogs and both use blogger.com, I think I'll use that system to, seems very nice :)

I've used MT but then moved to LJ. I prefer Wiki, though. It would be interesting to see if somebody would make a good bliki (blog+wiki) - some engines are already here, but they are so-so.

I use Word Press, and I have it set to moderate comments. I haven't seen it hacked or anything. I know someone else uses a blacklist so you can probably find a plugin that lets you block certain key words or something similar.
I think PHPBB is hacked more often not just because it is popular but because it is easy to hack. If someone customizes it, it makes it harder to fix security issues that are in the plain vanilla version, and if you create your own security issue, you're out of luck
And of course, the plain vanilla installations don't necessarily get patched. Just like any system.
