I'm guessing it's amusing because you have already closed another publishing deal for UBM that's worth more? Otherwise if there's nothing else on the horizon $500 per territory is better than $0.

Surely it's better to politely suggest you'll look around for a better deal than laugh down the phone at him - just in case no other publishers are interested.

I don't have any experience with publishers but wasn't this a good deal? $500 for each eastern european country, you'd need to sell 23 copies of UBM to make those $500... are you expecting to sell those 23 copies to Hungary, plus 23 to Poland, 23 to Chech Republic, etc? I'd be happy to sell 1 to all of those countries.
It looks to me you prefered $0 instead of $500 x number of countries...

These anti-publisher posts are getting boring ... probably only because I cant help replying!

Jack, we know this by now. We know *some* publishers are crap. We know *some* publishers offer tiny amounts of cash for our wonderfull games.
Why couldnt you have posted this on the current publisher thread Cas started?

We got £25k for each of our games. Hows that?
If we didnt even consider publishers, there would be no PomPom anymore. Great!.... not.

And just becuase I cant help having a dig... I could just as easily say:-

500$ to those countries was ok.
Is 500$ to the German-Austria-Switzerland one that isn't ok :) the contract was for 3 years. You know how many copies I can sell in those countries in three years? :) I think I'll make more than 500$...:D

Btw you believe it or not, I've already sold copies of UBM both in Poland and Hungary, and that was quite a surprise.

also note, that I didn't laugh at him at phone at all: I laught on my own thinking about the offer made to me.
I respect everyone, even those trying to publish a retail title for 500$ in germany-austria-switzerland at once... ;)
