View Full Version : Could this board's search options be tweaked?

Is it possible to relax some of the restrictions in the search function for these boards? The one restriction that is continuously problematic is that search ignores words that are 3 letters or less. This means it's impossible, for example, to search for HGE or PTK (very relevent topics for these boards). If you search for "HGE game engine" (in quotes) it refuses to search, and HGE game engine (no quotes) ignores the HGE and returns all threads containing game and engine.
Today I wanted to look for any comments on the game Mad Cars, but of course I can't. I keep running into this.
Any chance this could be changed?

I'll look into it. I'm not sure if it can be done or not.

Ahhh, no wonder when I was looking for threads about the ODE physics engine, I wasn't getting any hits though I knew damn well there were threads about it. What a really bad limitation. (I can understand the need to not store search info on "the", "and", etc, but it means you can't even search on ".NET".)

I have been told that some good information on VAT should be buried somewhere in these forums. But you cannot search for that either

I set it so it will now index 3 letter words as opposed to 4 and up. however doing a search for PTK is currently not working, I assume because it hasn't kept any references to 3 letter words in the past. Let's hope it starts working after we post a bit more

Thanks, Dan. I appreciate it. Too bad it doesn't retroactively index, but this will definitely improve things for the future.
And it is indexing now, because I just tried a search for PTK and it returned this thread. :D

There is no way to re-index the database of messages? There is a lot of 3-letter goodness in the short time IndieGamer has been up and running. :)
