Following up on the fairly recent discussion about flat panels, here's a good opportunity to make the switch if you haven't yet. Hell, this is a good enough deal it's worth grabbing one even if you're not convinced it's better than CRT. You'll use it for something. :)
17" Samsung 710N LCD - $239 after one instant rebate and one mail-in rebate. This is from newegg, so no worries there. Only knock against it: no DVI input.

Not bad....
I just picked up a new Princeton 19" LCD19D (includes DVI) for $291 shipped to my door from Buy.com.... But that was including a 6% off coupon which I got for buying stuff from Buy.com earlier...
Hey, anyone do better? I bet someone has gotten a better deal....

I've been happy with my purchases from 3b tech (http://3btech.net/monitors.html), a small company. Looks like their current 17" monitor deals are better than newegg, but the 19" worse than Chaster's find.

I posted about the Samsung because I've been very impressed by Samsung LCDs and that's the best deal I've happened upon for that brand/size. Regardless of brand, the lowest price on both sites (newegg, 3btech) for a 17" is about $209. Comparing brands directly, they each have their higher and lower ones.

That's true - Samsung is great when it comes to LCD no arguments there.. =)

I've run an LCD with and without DVI and I have to say it makes a dramatic difference. Probably explains the low price...

I agree, but IMHO a good LCD without DVI is still better than a CRT. I have noticed that the DVI connection seems to make a big difference in price.

I just brought home a Viewsonic VP171s 17" LCD. I was going to use it as a second monitor, but it makes my four year old Samsung CRT look terrible in comparison. DVI makes all the difference.
Oh, and the Viewsonic claims 8ms video response
