View Full Version : Reverse marketing?

I have discovered I am a genius at anti-promotion. When I was doing no marketing at all sales were sluggish, now that I'm actively promoting the game (adverts on gamesbanner and gametunnel.com and a press release) sales have actually gone down
Either it is a huge coincidence or I am an expert at reverse marketing. Maybe I could charge other games companies in return for not marketing their games :D
Could people take a quick look at my site and see if theres's something glaringly wrong with what I'm doing here?

My first impression is that there are a lot of ads on your site. They also animate in quite a jarring way, and are effectivly multiple routes for me to leave your site. The main page draws my attention to a GBN banner ad, not your games screenshot.
Just a thought.

Thanks cliffski, looking at it you're right that whole left hand bar is kind of a fast track right out of my site. I'll move the ads from the front page and see if it helps.

Yes. It's white. :D
Well. Saying seriously. Andy. Game was released on 22nd of December - is it correct?
You got good starting spike in sales the same as any another new title gets. Plus your one was connected to Christmas sales. So, it was probably even better in that moment and worse right now when everybody's sales slips down a little bit.
Now - back to reality. And you exactly should spend amount of efforts on marketing to stay in good conditions. And most of your starting efforts wouldn't recognizable at the very beginning. So, patience... ;) ... and good luck. :)
PS Hell! May be take a look at your game? Title itself sounds as pretty delicious for me. :D

I'm glad to hear this is a traditionally quiet time for sales, I was starting to worry.

Lol, Coming up with the title was nearly as hard as making the game. You should have heard the ones we didn't use.
As far as the game goes, we've had some really good feedback and some not so good. Personally I think it rocks but perhaps I'm biased. :p

We have this kind of discussion every day in office. And know what a conclusion? - How could we be unbiased? How could we think our games are bad? - We are doing our the best to make them as good as possible in every moment we are working on them. - Personally I could hardly imagine if we'd say to each other another in our team: Well. Let we publish this BS as is.
That's why I suppose this is correct and good to be biased and like your own creations - that gives you the forces to believe in them. :)

Definately, we started making the game aiming to create something we'd like to play and just hoping that other people would appreciate it too. I think it's a good sign that whenever we were supposed to be testing it we'd end up playing for ages and forgetting what we were meant to be testing for.
It's certainly been a good learning experience and theres a lot of things that we'll do differently for our next game.
Just played Invasion Pinball btw, very addictive :)
