Hi,

Maybe not obvious that it's Game Dev related but I need a 2nd database for my game website because currently my games site shares a database with my other businesses and it's getting a bit overloaded!

To hire a 2nd database with my current web hosting it will cost me £50+vat (thats over $100 i think) for one year. So I'm thinking of getting a database from a 3rd party. White it's easy to shop around for web hosting packages it seems much harder to find someone who do a 'database only' deal.

So, does anyone know a reliable company that can do cheap/reliable database only deals? Preferably in the UK since my websites are all hosted there anyway. I know £50+vat a year isnt much to pay but at the same time I'd like to see what alternatives there are, maybe I can get a more reliable service for the same price :p

Cheers,

That price seems completely off the wall. I have a dedicated server which allows unlimited accounts/databases/emails etc.. for 100$ a month. You can get a good one for 70-80$ -- Check out cyberwurks or servermatrix

Well, that's because no one wants that.

If the db is external you produce more traffic and (worse) latency will be doubled.

£50+vat is damn pricy if you ask me (I got 10 databases with my 5€ per month bundle).

Uh, 50 GBP per year? That only works out to 4 and some change (pence? pennies?) per month.

That's expensive?
