After a 5 month hiatus Crossbeam Studios has finally reopened a new site on a new server, and with a new look as well. Plus a CSE first, forums (which are still just getting off the ground, but you take what you can get in terms of traffic).

Since this is my first message here, I would like to introduce myself as well. I am Greg Szemiot, lead designer and director of Crossbeam Studios. How you all doing?

Anyway, any comments on the site are appreciated. Any advice anyone wants to share with getting an internet team to become more motivated is also appreciated.

Thanks for reading,
Greg

Beautiful site.

Speeling chick time:
On the "about" screen: forgeting > forgetting, your enjoy > you enjoy
Contact screen: comming > coming

Good luck building community, as it will be challenging before you have a product. Instead of building your own community, you might find a larger, similar community that will let you start as a subgroup. It's easier to cooperate with an existing community than to compete with them.

Welcome to the forums.

FEEDBACK:
whats the point in the front page?
"click to enter"
What else do you expect me to do?
Leave?
Theres a reason sites like amazon and real don't bother with that.

As for the game pages... There is some hype, but I have no idea what kind of games these are. Are they roleplaying games? shooters? who knows?

Why bother with the technology section. I dont care about the engine Half Life 2 uses, whats the chances of me caring that you use the torque engine?
Theres really no point in a games website without detailed information and screenshots, even on games in early form.
Sorry to be harsh but your suite has to compete with LOTs of others.

I agree with everything you said except the technology section. A lot of people care about the technology the games they play use, particularly if it's a licensed engine. It's one of the reasons developers and publishers brag about what engine their game uses, certain engines are associated with a certain level of quality.

Thank you all for the comments so far. I realize I have to make some changes (like spellcheck, and removing the front page (another good point there)) I appreciate the comments, and now I do have some work to do on the project pages as well :)

The layout feels odd. Company name is in the bottom, which on its own wouldnt be that bad - its even kinda interesting, but the space on the top feels really empty - i constantly get the feeling that something hasnt loaded on the page yet.

Background is kind of too varied for black text to read well. It shifts from rather light areas to pretty dark and eye has difficulty adjusting to such changes. (or maybe its the checkerboard pattern that messes up reada

And section titles are kind of too small, especially, considering that there is quite some space.

A few suggestions:

1) Change the font. That Times New Roman you're using doesn't go well with the style of the background or the "Crossbeam Studios" font. Use a sans-serif font, like Verdana.

2) Use more formatting for the text. It looks all the same, quite boring.

3) The default Windows scrollbars ruin the page design... I'm not sure if you can do much about that.

4) The navigation bar could use some graphics, instead of just plain text.

5) Center the page in the screen. Right now it's appering on the top left corner.

1. Use the Verdana font. It is elegant and soothing and most commonly used in web pages.

2. Try to optimize your page to a specific resolution and the decide if to make your page resizable or not.

3. I would remove the backgournd and make it as a small logo somewhere else on the page. E.g. Top-left

4. It is difficult to read the text on a non-static background. Or at least make the background very out of focus.

5. Use as much space as possible. If the text fits show it all and do not allow for scroll bars to show in the middle of the page. IMO the only scroll bar that I would want to see is the one in the far right of the window!

This is as far as design goes. The content of the site is up to you to decide. ;)

Your webpage (for some odd reason) runs like a pig under Mozilla. It's slow... really slow.

From your page...

We, as gamers, are sick of seeing games sell based off of a name or character.

You should maybe do a little reading on marketing because establishing names/characters/franchises is exactly what you're supposed to be doing. If you want to make money, that is...
