Ahh.. holiday season.. this is the time to sit back and relax. I'm just curious on how indies spend their holiday since obviously we work as a CEO and employee at the same time.. so no rules, no obligations.. no boundaries :p
So, how do you guys spend your holiday ? do you go to some tropical island or spend it inside ur basement trying to make another indie games ?

I've got a few things on my todo list.
I just became the owner of a brand new baby Apple iBook, so I'll be spending a bit of time getting used to it, installing the development tools, changing its nappies...
I also want to get a start on my website. I've currently got a crappy under development page. I want to get a much nicer coming soon page up.
I reckon I need to relax a little too. One of my hobbies is oil painting... I haven't done much recently (and I'm not very good) so I want to spend a few hours with a brush in my hand.
Since my family and friends are approximately 7000 miles away, I won't be seeing them, but I'll be on the phone a bit on Christmas day I suspect.
I need to seriously sit down and work out my business, financial, and health and lifestyle goals for the next year and beyond. So a bit of navel gazing is in order too.
Oh, and I reckon I'll get in early and wish everyone on the forums a happy non-denominational winter gift giving season. :p

On the subject of gift giving ... I had a talk with my Dad this year and we agreed to stop buying presents for the adults in the family. He thought that was an amazing idea and, so, that's what we're doing. Only buy stuff for the kids and be done with it.
Makes the holidays MUCH less painful...

Just curious, how many Indies here are full time? I still work for The Man (tm) as I have yet to sell more than one copy of a game.
Alas, I'll spend my limited off time with family. Times like this I wish I had a laptop so I could work on my Indie project while I'm away from home. Maybe wifey will come through this year for Christmas!!!!!! Wish me luck...
I've been working non stop to release my game's update *before* Christmas... :-\
Last things I did were changes/fixes on my web site and making CD covers for my game and putting them for download.

Working on my next game release. No difference from any other week. My life is one long holiday.

I'm going to the States with my wife and twins to spend the holiday with the other side of the family. I got a lot accomplished in the past 2-3 weeks and met most of my goals for 2004. I'll complete work on my new gameGarden War (http://www.gardenwar.com/) and get my new publishing company online and ready to process orders by end of January.

No family or friends to spend time with? Just sounds a little lonely is all...

Every Christmas Eve my parents host a big dinner for my family. I'll be spending time eating and probably playing video games with my younger cousins. My girlfriend is in another state, but I'm on a flight to see her and her family on New Year's Eve. We'll come back together in her car.

My problem is too many friends. What's hard is to get a little time to myself.

Ah, we'll be having another lonely Christmas in Japan. But I have some time off from my jobs, which means I can... catch up on some contract work I'm behind with. Bah.
And hopefully, get it done in time to actually work on my game a little bit before it's time to go back to work. But that may be overly optimistic.
Not that I'd complain - it's still super-excellent to not be going to work for a bit.

My bad. Your last post made it sound like you would be working on your game. My mistake...

Oh but I will be. That's exactly what I'll be doing. Just nothing lonely about it.

i know exactly what you mean. it's hard to keep turning down my friends because i have a lot of work to do (as we all know, being an indie is a very time-sensitive/work-intensive job). sometimes it's hard for them to understand. i'm sure we have all heard the famous "it doesn't hurt to get out of the house for one day!" or "it doesn't hurt to take a break for one day!" or "come on you bastard!" .

I'm currently trying to work on a balancing act between working on my projects and having a social life. Somehow I am not getting too far with my project and yet still feel like I am being a bad friend.

Well one of the reasons its just a regular week for me is because im in a Bhuddist country. You notice Christmas happening here about as much as you'd notice Loy Katung happening in the US. That is to say.. not at all.

In Japan, Christmas is "for lovers", they say. It's like a cross between valentine's day and Disneyland.

A-hah! I wondered why the Iron Chefs always made Valentine's Day-style stuff in their Christmas Battles!

My CEO is my wife, and our deal is, I can work as long as she is working or sleeping, but she prefers me to sleep with her. :-) Yuletime is no different. We both have the 25th off. A few friends may stop by. Otherwise we'll be sipping egg nog out of each other's brandy snifters. Candles, fireplace, chocolates, roast beast, etc. It's been a wonderful year for us. Although, I will be thinking of the fine people I've met here, already.
Cheers to you all!

By the way, Svero, were you affected by the tsunami?
