Quick suggestion:

Make the tile backgrounds a little lighter so the letters stand out more.

As you scan the tiles looking for letters, without good contrast between forground and background, you have to focus/concentrate more on each tile to make sure your seeing the letter correctly. This can become tiring after a while and also be more of a task for people who have poor eyesight.
