Hey all!
Greg and I posted a preview of all of the 2005 IGF games. Half of the article is on www.diygames.com and the other half on www.gametunnel.com. The hope was to get a few more games noticed this year instead of just the finalists. It's a lengthy but good read, especially if you are into the IGF.

Great work guys... the effort is much appreciated, and far more interesting than browsing the list at the Igf website.
...despite there being a smaller number of games being submitted this year.
If the whole 'travel to California' requirement wasn't there, there might have been a few more.

So that's why DIYG and Game Tunnel haven't been updated much lately. Hey... I need my fix. :)

:)
Don't know about Greg, but I ended up taking 3 Days off of work to finish up my part of the article...one of those monumental undertakings, but I got to play some good games and make some new acquaintances...so as long as the article helps some people out we're all good :)

Yeah. I mean, it might be all right if you live in California to begin with. It's not so cool if you live, say, on the complete opposite side of the planet to California.
Which has always been my big problem with the IGF.
Still, I'm always interested in what's going down. Cheers for the reports, guys, I'll take a look when I'm not in such a hurry... much appreciated.

Man, what a wealth of content. This AND the GOTY. Amazing, it will take me days to get through all this.

Wow great work guys, thats a boat load of quaily reivews there.
Thanks for really spending time with all those entries. Usally nobody cares enough to do that unless they make it to the finals.
I probalby read twice as slow as Dan, so I better get cracken :)
One thing that I always thought would be cool would be to get constuctive feedback from the folks that review the games for IGF, and an indepth feedback at least in the final round. Heck you guys did the reviews for free, eveyone paid money to get into the IGF.
Anyway, thanks again for being cool :)

Heh, I wasn't able to take any time off work (unfortunately) to work on it, but one day last week I got home from work at 7pm, said nevermind to going to bed and just stayed up all night until I had to go to work the next morning at 7am, then didn't go to bed until 3am that evening. Oh yeah, hell in a handbasket people, hehe. I'm taking the first week and a half of January off for website stuff, so that'll be fun!
But as Russell said, i think the idea is that it sucks to have gaming sites report on the IGF finalists once a year and that it. Especially since there are so many great products that never make it to the finals.
Now that Alex Dunne is leaving CMP, and thus not in control of the IGF, I'm going to submit a note to the new chairman concerning the whole travel issue. I understand why they want someone there to show off the game, but entrants really should be allowed to designate a PR type person to represent them at the show if they so choose.
Anyway, thanks for the kind words everyone, really does mean a lot! Playing through most of these games has been a real pleasure so far, this years entries are some of the strongest in the competitions history, in my opinion.
