Do you live anywhere near Toronto, Ontario, Canada?
Do you feel like travelling?

Consider attending "The Toronto Independent Game Jam #3"
May 9 - 11, 2008
Sweet Website: www.tojam.ca (http://www.tojam.ca)

It's free, open to the public, and chock full of nice people.
We're looking for anyone with game making skills:
Coders. Artists. Musicians. Designers. We need them all.
Hobbyists. Professionals. Students - all are welcome.
Overwhelming details, as well as the games that have been produced thus far,
can be found here: www.tojam.ca (http://www.tojam.ca)

We need 150 people, otherwise "The Nordic Game Jam",
and its presumptuous claims of "The World's Biggest Game Jam!!!",
will be proven correct :)

That space invaders game is in HTML and not JS or Flash?

Space Invaders is done with Javascript and HTML - no Java or Flash.
i.e. Each Space invader is an absolutely positioned IMG tag.
I consider Javascript and HTML to be the same these days, apologies if I misled you :o

You might be able to do this with Flash.
The problem is the mix of Google crawlable HTML text with the invaders,
and the fact they can be in the background or in the foreground.
You would probably need to move the entire page into Flash,
and generate separate text for Google. Plus, you need to know Flash.

Hot Tip #1
Use Arrow Keys for old school feel.
Hot Tip #2
Hold Spacebar for a permanent laser.

The Javascript code is all in this file:

http://www.tojam.ca/global/invader.js
It's compatible with IE6.0+, Firefox 1.2+ and MAC Safari.
You get several years of hard-earned knowledge in that .js file :)

Every page of the site instantiates the invaders with this call:
<SCRIPT Language="javascript" Src="../global/invader.js"></SCRIPT>
Invader_Initialize();
</SCRIPT>

I was trying to get an article published on the tricks used,
but I've been unable to generate any interest.
http://www.quirksmode.org is the only reason the keyboard and mouse work cross browser.

Cool, thanks. Way to many things on my plate and I have to say that straight up Java has become more compelling than JS for me but I'll keep the resource in mind.

Hope you aren't a Leafs fan although it's no better to be a Canucks fan at the moment after that historic March meltdown.
