I've started NARG - "not another racing game"

But instead of getting out something playable I'm doing it the other way and setting it all up from the end and going backwards!

We all dread the "it works on my machine" syndrome and I want to do everything do get rid of it, now that I don't risk anything:) Early disappointments are the best imho!

Here is everything hosted at my blog (http://narg.eu/?p=19) - package consisting of: an installer, configuration utility, the 'game', crash interceptor and reporter, feedback support.

Enjoy and thanks if you give it a spin!

PS. Also I would like to use this post to shamelessly point to my (ad-free) blog which is about general and specific(this NARG stuff) game programming.

I tried running it under Linux using Wine. (Well, you did indicate that you wanted heavy compatibility testing. :D ) It crashed with "Cannot find/load %APPDATA%\NARG\settings.xml".

You might want to consider adding more information via the crash reporter. Video card info, operating system, a list of loaded DLLs including names/versions/checksums, total and free memory, total and free disk space, install location, locale, anything else you can think of that might possibly be relevant. If you're testing for incompatibilities, it helps when you know what you're incompatible with. :)

Providing some incentive to test it besides just goodwill would also be a good idea. I only did it because I wanted to know whether it ran in Wine, out of morbid curiosity. :p

ChrisP, I had someone tell me it successfully ran it on Wine:)
see http://www.gamedev.net/community/forums/topic.asp?topic_id=489774

And I agree, more info is needed to the report! Thanks!

Heh. Just goes to show how fragile Wine support is. I know Mayhem Intergalactic worked on at least one version of Wine, but I also had someone tell me more recently that it didn't work. Sigh. :)

forget Wine, ReactOS (http://www.reactos.org/en/index.html) is coming! :)
