Our latest retro style platformer "Skin & Bones" should be released soon (ish). It's a bit different in that you control two different characters within the game and can switch between them at any time.

Just uploaded a preview trailer at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wySkarxBEoY

Enjoy!

This looks like it will be a really cool platformer. From the video it looks like you make ggod use of coop play to utilize the strength and weaknesses of both Skin and Bones. This would be something I would buy!

Thanks!

Wanted to do something different with two characters.
Skin is fast, agile and is the only one who can collect the gems. Bones is tough and can protect Skin by killing enemies, removing traps and throwing switches. They can also stand on each others heads to reach out of the way places :)

Love the name! - it would make a good (java) mobile game most likely :)

I'm not usually too big on platformer but this one looks interesting. Good luck!

ditto but this looks top notch and I suspect that this will get you attention from people willing to port to smaller devices. The game mechanic near the end where skin can jump on bones's head (while bones hangs out in the lava) is cool. Well done.

looks cool. I like how you've fully committed to the retro theme.
Plus, the idea of 2 characters is a strong idea that everyone can immediately get into. funny name too :)

(btw, nobody remember 'Head over Heels' (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Head_Over_Heels_(game)) on ZX Spectrum? the 2 characters could stand on each others heads, and do various weird things...)

That's where the idea came from funnily enough.
We needed another way that Skin and Bones could interact with each other and Head over Heels came to mind as another game with 2 different characters.
As mentioned above Skin can jump on Bones' head while he's in the lava/water etc but this works the other way too. Bones can't jump as high or as far as Skin so sometimes he will need to stand on Skins' head to reach out of the way platforms etc.

It's always great to see an indie platformer. We need more of 'em.

I love the ideas behind skin&bones, the differences between the two characters and the advantage of using them in combination should help to set this game above the average platformer. I'd actually like to see this game on the DS. :)

also, while I was cruising the intertubes this morning I spotted something (http://firstsecondbooks.typepad.com/mainblog/2005/11/revised_strip.html) which made me think of this game

It would be great to get this on the DS. Come on Ninetendo, give me a call :D

Love the cartoon strip :)

Love the cartoon strip :) Ha, that is a good one but to clarify: It was the image at the top I was referring to. I love the skin&bones characters highlighting their opposites through the duality of black&white.

Just a bit of an update rather than a new thread . . .

Skin & Bones will be released within the next week or so!

The game has changed quite a lot since I originally posted the preview trailer. Some new screenshots from the game:

The game will be available to buy within the next week or so.

A lot has changed in the game since we did the original trailer and we are currently working on a new version which will show a lot more of the game.

Is this going to be a freeware game? If not, hmm... is there still a money making market for 2d platform games? Game looks very cool.

addictive247 has had success selling 2d platformers over the years, there is no reason why that will not continue.

Skin & Bones won't be Freeware.
I believe there is still a good market for 2D platform games. They're my favourite type of game, which is why I enjoy writing them. They might not be everyone's "cup-of-tea" but this style of 2D retro-style platformer still has a lot of fans.

(shame about the quality on YouTube)

(I found this out myself this week) You can add &fmt=18 to the end of your youtube link to show a higher quality version. So, Skin&BonesHQ (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J6CwxcYvc7I&fmt=18) ;)
