Does anyone else get annoyed by that?
"this email address is not monitored" "replys will be deleted" etc etc.
I have to ask myself this...
"If you have some good reason to email me, I may well have some good reason to reply. If you cant be bothered to read my reply, dont send me the goddam email"
I'm not interested (as a customer) in any technical explanation. If I get an automated email saying I've bought something, or whatever, I should be able to reply to it and have a customer service guy at least read the reply. Thats just good customer service isn't it?

Yeah, but remember - email was invented by nerds, and nerds don't have a great background in interpersonal communication skills. Same kinds of people that generally set up email systems these days with that sort of attitude, I'd expect.

If a large enough volume of mail is being sent from an address, it becomes impossible to monitor because of all the bounce-backs and spam that it gets. For some things like payment confirmations it's a bad idea to have the unmonitored approach, but for bulkier amounts of mail I think it's understandable and a consequence of the poor and outdated architecture of e-mail.

How's this then?

I recently acquired a Sony MD recorder. The software it comes with doesn't work, rendering it useless.

I emailed Sony about it... well, actually, I had to do it via a form. I had to fill in loads of info boxes, and then I had to summarise my problem in less than 100 words. The first time I did this, there was a script error, and I had to fill it all in again.

Later I got a reply from Sony, saying that they knew it didn't work and they had no intention of fixing it. I can't reply to this email.

My only recourse now is to go to Sony HQ and throw a brick through their window.

Just for another good strong wave of blind fury. And a brick.

I wish sony didnt make such good stuff (vaio) because then I could boycott them and not have to deal with the monkeys in customer service.

I had a Sony Vaio that was a good deal. It was a decent laptop, but it finally died. I am not in the market for one currently, but if I decide to get one, I won't buy Sony. Their proprietary extensions aren't doing it for me.

Unfortunately, almost all laptops are proprietary by definition. Some makers are more open to standards than others, but they are hard to find.
