howdy, I was wonding how many mac owners have got a multi-button mouse? All my mac friends have one, but what about the game buying public? Is there any data or surveys to indicate this? My game could use the second button but I dont want to have to if noone has one

Personally I have a multi-button mouse on my mac. Lots of others do as well. However, for sure there are some mac users who will not have a multi-button mouse. You should take this into account and make sure your game can be played OK in this situation. It shouldn't be that hard - most of the time you can just substitute mod key-mouse click for right click.
I would be interested in hearing what percentage of mac users have multi-button mice, but I don't know where you could such info with any reliability.

maybe you guys on the forum who run mac game websites could run a little poll on your sites? I think the info would be handy coming from real customers as I'd assume alot of devs would have them

Hmm, that's a good idea. I just put such a poll (http://sillysoft.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1579) in my forums. Give it a few days and we will see...

Vectrex's idea is good. I have an iBook and use its builtin trackpad, but I use it for little more than compiling. Dustin's poll will be much more valuable.

I only use my iBook's 1-button touchpad. I have a number of friends with iBooks who do the same.
If you're targetting Macs, you should definitely take this into account! "Power users" will surely have a two button mouse handy (I do, but I don't use it on my iBook), but casual gamers who have been lifelong Mac users are likely quite used to the single button mouse, and would be upset if your game didn't support signle-button play.
Why not use the Apple-Command key as the second button?

oh sure I'd still have the second 'mouse' button, but I'd be happier knowing people could use the mouse as I feel with fast paced games people prefer using either all keyboard or all mouse (except hardcore fps people can handle it)
