I briefly mentioned this elsewhere, in a difference context, but now that it's official I think it's time to open the champagne.
Hanako Games won 1st place, $80,000, and a publishing contract at the Casual Connect Conference two weeks ago. CCC is the GDC of the casual game industry. (a 1 BILLION dollar industry :-) Innovate is their IGF.
Mousechief Co. won Most Innovative Game and a cool three grand, without the obligatory contract.
Interama won Best Story Development for LexVenture, and $3,000.
Those are names I've seen on this board, for the rest...

80k and a pub deal. Pretty nice. Its interesting to read these forums over the years and see all the changes take place and how people succeed over time. People quitting their jobs, getting bought up etc... If you went back I bet you could write a pretty interesting history of the members summary.

Amazing work, guys and girls! Congratulations indeed.
I first realized that money was being made in casual games when I saw Real's "Game Developer Showdown" in 2003, with its prize pool of $150,000. After they failed to follow it up the next year, I wondered if it was a fluke, or if we'd ever see a contest like that again. So, I'm glad these rewards exist, and I'm glad they're rewarding the right people.

How to download the games that won awards?
"Magic Circles", for example.

The games are still in development, so you can't get at them yet.

We have posted a demo of our game, for Mac and PC. Follow the link in my signature.
Oh, and BTW, there were 80 games entered in the contest.

This is so exciting! Congratulations!
One thought: make sure that you get a good percentage from your publishing contract. I wouldn't take it if the prize money is all you're going to get from the deal. That probably won't happen, but I would make sure, just in case. :)

I'll bet Papillon will fight for a decent royalty after the advance. She's been in the biz a while. The rest of us needn't worry, since the special nomination prizes did not include a contract.

Hah. And I say, again, Hah. I am more cynical, more paranoid, and more of an eternal n00b than you imagine. :)
But I can't say anything about the contract, because I still haven't seen one.

Good to see that! It might be very amazing experience, to get award like that.
Dear papillon, hope to play your Awarded game soon in the near future!
