Okay, so, we've finished a game, a RTS game to be more precisely, and now we are struggling to sell it. Up until now, sales didn't go well at all, and we know little about marketing. The purpose of this post is to gather some impressions / ideas / suggestions about our game, in order to further improve it, if possible. Please take a moment to read the following lines and be good to leave us your opinions. Thank you.

To begin, Galactic Dream: Rage of War is a 3D space-based game, classical type of real-time strategy, with over 50 different units and buildings, two distinct and powerful races clashing in an epic galactic battle. Our target market is the RTS players community. Game language is English and development time was one year and half.

Some of the Game Features:
- Player can control hundred of units on the battlefield; number of units is limited only by the hardware power;
- Easy to play, with an acceptable learning curve sustained by the in-game tutorial;
- Fast creation of armies to completely satisfy players' hunger to conduct rushes over the enemy;
- The Epic Campaign follows the Terrans' struggle for survival across the galaxy;
- Funny unit dialogs such as: “I feel like I'm living in a game.”
“Yes, I am the chosen one... or selected one.”;
- Detailed textures, units that advance in levels to become the core of your unbeatable armada;
- Supported Multiplayer mode over LAN or via TCP/IP (online server).

Put into one phrase, the story behind the game can be outlined as two races that will battle across the galaxy, as the Terrans struggle for survival. On a closer look, humanity is racing toward space on the wings of hope, running away from a deadly menace emerging from the galactic core, a threat that could lead to the extinction of all men. Always running away from the prowess Argo, humans learned a lot throughout their short hyperspace jumps and is unwilling to surrender to the enemy. With little help from their alien friends, the Deviants (a renegade faction of the Argo) they successfully rise against the mighty fleet which already assimilated dozen of worlds in its journey through the galaxy.

As the balance of power shifts between the two warring species we cannot help it asking ourselves what cause it and 'Will it ever end'? The player is encouraged to engage in epic galactic warfare, to venture deep into space in a race against time, and to play through a tale about choosing sides and about how one man can make a difference, despite all odds and obstacles facing him.

I think it's illegal to use music from Halo - even if it's in your demo.

Just like your website, your in-game menu is hard to read and confusing. Change the HUD around to become more simplistic. Even though I was doing the tutorial I was confused with what I should do. I didn't know what buttons to press. I also didn't know who I was in the game.

I love RTS games. This genre is all about the right tweaking and that's roughly what this game needs.

I recall passing the site one day and reading the game features, this one stood out for me:
Funny unit dialogues such as: Yes, I'm the chosen one... or selected one;

I didn't laugh, or find it remotely funny (that hit me hard for some reason) and felt that if you needed to have that as a highlight feature your game must be lacking in features. Otherwise the only reason I didn't download the demo was because I'm stuck on dialup, the screenshots and website seemed impressive for me (beside waiting so long due to dialup speeds :p)

Of course I'll still a n00b to this whole marketing thing as well, so that's the only advice I can offer.

His game might be lacking marketing, but why would market a bad game? Fix the game, get opinion - rinse and repeat - sell the game. Of course this is an ideal situation.

Great looking assets. Watching the YouTube video didn't get me interested - I'm looking for very easy to get into strategy games and this just looked like a huge investment in time. I want old school type games, ie. look at the screen and immediately get the game play.

BTW, also played The Strategist today. Played multiple times, never felt like I was getting any better. Played Galcon last week - that was very fun, couple hours gone just like that. Not very pretty to look at and I'm not missing it right now - maybe a depth issue - but pretty darn fun strategy game.

Needless colons in game titles: just say no. For the love of god, people... just please stop this. It's a dumb move for several reason... aesthetically and business-wise. What's wrong with either "Galactic Dream" or "Rage of War"? You couldn't decide between the two so you went with both? What should people call it informally? Even you couldn't even be bothered to put the entire name in the title of your post.

Screenshots look pretty, but give me absolutely no idea how the game is played... is this really an RTS game? Where is the strategic view? It looks like I'm zoomed in on unit firing or getting hit... ? Some more varied screenshots would be nice, if these are your marketing shots.

Generic Words: Colonated!

Sorry, it's just a particular pet peeve of mine.

Well, Welcome to the club. Even I did an RTS game but didn't get it to sell very well. It is disappointing as a lot of work went into it so had to stop game programming. Maybe in the future but for sure not now.
