I find it amazing how far this story has spread. That first day it was out, it showed up on every site that I read except cnn.com. And I expect it will be there soon enough. :)

Even the IGDA posted a "response" type of article about it. It's a good thing, though, since there is finally a chance of some change in the industry about this topic. This article HAS to have shown up on some important people's radars. Whether they care about it or not is another thing...

The problem here is that people let the game companies do this to them. It's a simple supply/demand issue. Game companies know that there're plenty of people who want to work "in the industry" and are willing to work long hours, so they don't care if there's high turnover. If nobody wanted to work in these conditions, they'd be forced to do something about it. A lawsuit isn't the answer. Nobody's keeping these people there. It's like suing BMW for making their cars too expensive. Who says you have to buy a BMW? As long as there'll be people who're willing to be abused to drive a BMW (metaphorically speaking), these problems will remain in the game industry.

Well maybe this is a good thing in the end. If ea ends up getting burned it could improve the working conditions throughout the industry and who knows... maybe even force changes in the kinds of titles being produced.

Yes, correct Steve.

I see serious problems that guys have and ready to share their pain.

But let me note some tiny thing - I'm working 14-15 hours per day (11am-3am) - generally all days a week. And our company still doesn't get that amount of money what that guy get alone - and what they consider not fair payments...
Is it fair? :D

I obviosly should consider some lawsuit - just need to figure out the subject against whom I should fill it. :D

Kidding?! :D
Only God let us still survive and even grow step-by-step - no, we will better waive this on ourselves. ;)

Usually you fight the bad things, not the good, right? ;) I'd suggest a class against against evil.

Well, is there any reason why you can't work less? Can you look at what you're doing and determine what can be delegated or eliminated? What tasks give you more returns than others? Which ones give you little or no returns?

Well. Reason to not work less - we want our company to grow (quickly).
Really I have amount to say on issue. But this thread was devoted to another problem by author. (Pardon for hijacking it - I wasn't planning anything of this type)

Just two words - if we'd knew for sure what would be the result of every our step - we'd probably get amount of free time from not doing that. But hell - who knows?..
And yes, we always eliminate what ever we can - especially now - we we had grown :-) And no, we don't delegate anything to anybody - just don't trust. ;-)

Two points -
1) You have a choice whether to work longer hours, or not.
2) You see benefits from working longer hours, whereas someone doing unpaid overtime does not.

Anthony,

I said at first I do realize their problems and agree that this is unfair and incorrect behaviour of their companies. And I do realize the difference in their and our situations.

But look at irony - unpaid overtime - I'm pretty not sure about that if we start to speak about the price for our overtime. Yes, of course - we are extremely untalanted, terribly lazy, don't know anything in our business at all - but I get almost nothing for my own overtime. :)

PS OK. No more! Otherwise I'm afraid we will start to receive the donations from fellow developers. :) Guys! We are fine really! We just working very hard but what's a problem?. ;)

Illegal for some professions and legal for others? sounds like descrimination to me. The law should be changed. I hope this makes CNN so EA gets burned.
