Does anyone here have experience licensing intellectual property from a company and then using that property to sell games in a particular channel?

If so, did you pay flat out licensing fees, royalties only, etc?

Also, has anyone had experience licensing games from one platform to port them to another? And same follow up question, how did you work out the financials?

I have access to the IP of a game companies IP and am thinking of pursuing porting their games to a platform they currently don't operate in. The idea is to share in the profits (royalties.) The part I'm struggling with is what is the norm in the industry (if there even is one) for licensing % wise? I understand there are hundreds of factors (cost of dev, value of the IP, publishing arrangements, etc etc, etc.) Just looking for any high level advice.

Thanks!

There is no norm. I know of very high figures and ridiculously low ones. It also depends how much advance is involved, if any.

When valuing any IP, consider how many extra sales [or the development boost] that the IP really gives you. Be *really* honest about it - no point fooling yourself.

Where no advance is involved, royalties may be evenly split (although it depends what the definition of royalties is, and from where they come).

I also know of cases of high advances and xx%[high] publisher net revenue royalties. You'd all know the games if I named them, and I understand profits were made, so perhaps it was justified.
